Agnes Marie Jacobsen

Agnes Marie Lykke Jacobsen the daughter of John and Anna Marie (Juel) Lykke was born March 1, 1917, at her parents’ home in Audubon County, east of Kimballton, Iowa and died April 12, 2017, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 1 month, and 11 days.
Agnes was baptized at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Audubon County then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1934. After graduation she was employed at the Exira Café.
On February 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Henry Jacobsen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Gary, Lanny and Tamara. They farmed east of Exira. Agnes helped John operate the farm where they grew row crops and raised livestock. Agnes was a homemaker during this time raising the children and helping with the farming. She always had a large vegetable garden and enjoyed harvesting the produce. They farmed for over 23 years and in 1962 they moved into Exira. Agnes worked at the Ben Franklin store for 15 years and then at the Wise Owl Motel on Highway 71 until she retired in 1986. John Henry passed away March 21, 1996, at their home in Exira. Agnes enjoyed her home then in 1998 she moved to the Sunset apartments in Exira. In August of 2011 Agnes moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa.
Agnes was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She enjoyed baking and was famous for the delicious pies she made. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband John Henry; was her grandson Justin Hansen; her parents, her sister and brothers Clarence and wife Margaret Lykke, Leona and husband Marion Rubel, Arnold Lykke, and LaVerne and wife Maxine Lykke; her father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Bertha Mae (Channon) Jacobsen; and her brother-in-law Roy and wife Rose Jacobsen.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Gary and Irene Jacobsen of Exira, Iowa; Lanny and Judy Jacobsen of Ankeny, Iowa, and Tamara and Wayne Hansen of Cumming, Iowa; her grandchildren and spouses Sharla and Lou Decker of Weatherby Lake, MO; Derek and Laura Jacobsen of Mason City, IA; Steve and Lori Jacobsen of Kearney, MO; Sally and Tony Ortgies of West Des Moines, IA; Kimberly and Tom Staton of Urbandale, IA; John and Jen Jacobsen of Colorado Springs, CO; Mindy and Clint Dudley of West Des Moines, IA; 16 great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Thelma Lykke of Jefferson, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Cemetery in Exira. The casket bearers will be Sharla and Lou Decker, Kimberly and Tom Staton, Derek and Laura Jacobsen, John and Jen Jacobsen, Steve and Lori Jacobsen, Sally and Tom Ortgies, and Mindy and Clint Dudley.
