Allan Dale Jacobsen

Allan Dale Jacobsen, the son of Willie and Esther (Jensen) Jacobsen was born April 10, 1929, on his grandfather’s farm in Sharon Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died July 29, 2017, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 19 days.
Allan was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. He attended rural schools Sharon #8 and Mt. Zion (Douglas #9) then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1947. Allan drove school bus for a short time and attended Grand View College for one year where he studied business. He started farming in 1948 and grew row crops and raised livestock.
On September 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Blanche L. Christensen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. They were blessed with seven children Joan, Barbara, Rebecca, Donald, Robert, Allan D. Jacobsen, Jr., and Tony. On May 2, 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served as an MP and was stationed in Germany. Allan was honorably discharged on August 28, 1952. He returned to farming and in 1957 served as an officer on the Audubon County Sheriff’s Department for a short time. He was the Audubon County Auditor from 1959 through 1965 and later worked for Emmert Manufacturing for a little over ten years. Allan and Tom Nielsen formed a partnership where they sold insurance and real estate, did farm management, income tax, and had accounting services. Allan retired from the business in 1991.He was very community minded and served on many boards in many different capacities which included being Secretary of the School Board for over 30 years, was a member of the Lions Club for 36 years, was on the Audubon County Cancer Board for over 30 years, was a member of the American Legion Post #120 for 55 years and was a life member of the V.F.W. Because of his commitment to the Audubon community he received the Community Service Award in 1995. Allan had been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church since 1960 and had held several church offices and later served as a Conference Counselor under the ALC and served as the Western Iowa Synod Treasurer for the ELCA.
Allan enjoyed camping, woodworking, and gardening. He enjoyed supporting and watching the many activities his children and grandchildren were involved in... He loved to play cribbage and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan.
Preceding him in death was an infant son Allan D. Jacobsen, Jr.; his parents; and his brother Virgil C. Jacobsen.
Survivors include his wife Blanche Jacobsen of Audubon, Iowa; his children Joan and husband Dr. Dana Shaffer of Pikesville, Kentucky, Barbara Jacobsen of Audubon, Rebecca and husband Ronald Conatser of Cumming, Georgia, Donald and wife Sharon Jacobsen of Greenfield, Minnesota, Robert and wife Connie Jacobsen of Audubon, Iowa, and Tony and wife Jodi Jacobsen of Manson, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, his brother William and wife Virginia Jacobsen of Des Moines, Iowa; his sisters-in-law Janice Jacobsen of Elk Horn, Iowa and Ingrid Heilskov of Hampton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening August 2, 2017, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton, Iowa. The honorary casket bearers will be the Lions Club. The casket bearers will be his grandchildren Sarah Jacobsen, Tyler Jacobsen, Alex Jacobsen, Matthew Jacobsen, Adam Jacobsen, Katelyn Jacobsen, Cheryl Zinke, Royce Shaffer, Kirsten Heard, Andrea Hitchcock, Susan James, and Nicole Benton.
