Allen Leroy Oakley, Jr.

Allen LeRoy Oakley, Jr., the son of Allen LeRoy Oakley, Sr. and Janice Crees Oakley, was born July 2, 1958, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and died November 8, 2010, at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 52 years, 4 months, and 6 days.
Allen was baptized at the First Christian Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended Hope Mills Community Schools in North Carolina graduating from the Southview High School with the Class of 1976. He attended North Carolina State University for a short time before moving to Audubon. Allen was employed at the Pizza Hut in Audubon then traveled for the Pizza Hut Corporation opening new restaurants in Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
On July 2, 1985 he was united in marriage to Debra Hammerstrom in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Three children were born to this union. Allen continued to work for Pizza Hut for a short time then managed the B. Dalton Book Store in Sioux Falls. He then was promoted and was transferred to Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Indianola, Iowa and Winterset, Iowa, before moving to Audubon in September of 1990. Allen worked for Burr Plumbing and later Audubon Plumbing and Heating for several years. He then was employed at the Friendship Home in Audubon as a Certified Nurses Assistant. While working at the Friendship Home, Allen attended Iowa Western Community College where he studied to become a Registered Nurse. He later specialized as an Orthopedic Nurse. He was a nurse at St. Anthonys Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and has been working as a nurse at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska for the past four years.
Allen has been a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon since 2003. Allen received many awards at The Nebraska Medical Center for going above and beyond the call of duty, nominated by his co-workers and the patients. Allen enjoyed attending all the childrens activities including sports and musical events. He enjoyed reading, watching the Sci-Fi channel, working on the computer, and drinking Coca-Cola.
Allen was preceded in death by his father Allen LeRoy Oakley, Sr. and his father-in-law Luverne Hammerstrom.
Allen is survived by his wife Debra Oakley of Audubon, Iowa; his children Regan Oakley of Huxley, Iowa, Corey and wife Ashley Oakley and Morgan Oakley all of Audubon; his mother Janice Oakley of Audubon; his brothers Jeff Oakley of Audubon, Jon Oakley of Waukee, Iowa; his mother-in-law Alyce Hammerstrom of Canton, South Dakota, his brother-in-law Alan Hammerstrom of Korea; his sisters-in-law Tricia and husband Bruce Marra of Hull, Iowa, Lynda and husband Charlie Johnson of Canton, South Dakota, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, IA.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Thursday evening November 11, 2010, at 7:00 at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Douglas Opp on Friday, November 12, 2010, 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon.
