Anne Swanson

Anne Swanson, the daughter of Carl and Christina Meyer Heuss, was born November 3, 1912, at her parent’s home in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died March 13, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 10 days. Anne was baptized at the Plymouth Brethren Church in Ross, Iowa. She accepted the Lord at an early age and witnessed her deep faith to her children, family, and friends. She attended rural school, Leroy #2, located south of Ross. Anne helped on the family farm then moved to Chicago, Illinois to live with her sister Mary. While living in Chicago she was a nanny for a family who lived on the North Shore of Chicago. On March 24, 1934, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Swanson in Carroll, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. They rented several farms before they purchased their own farm south of Ross, Iowa. They operated a grain and livestock farm raising cattle. Anne enjoyed raising chickens gardening and her flower garden. They retired from farming in 1975 and moved into Audubon. During the winter months they would live in Sun City, Arizona. William died June 25, 1979. Anne continued to live in her own home and spent several winters in Sun City. In January of 2005, she moved into the Friendship Home in Audubon. Anne was a member of the Church of Christ in Audubon, Iowa. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She loved to garden and always had a large flower garden. Anne was preceded in death by her husband William Swanson; her son-in-law Bill Honeck; her parents; her twin brothers Charles and wife Martha Heuss and Ferdinand and wife Elnora Heuss; her other brothers Otto and wife Myrtle Heuss, William and wife Ruth Heuss, Paul and wife Nettie Heuss, Adolph and wife Ellie Heuss and Arthur Heuss; her sisters Rose and husband Reinhard Mennenoh, and Mary and husband James Brodie; her sister-in-law Alice and husband Ben Pitsenbarger. Survivors include her children Bill and wife Doreen Swanson of Ankeny, Iowa, Ronald and wife Shirley Swanson of Audubon, Iowa, and Carol Ann Honeck of Sun City, Arizona; her grandchildren Beverly and husband Tom Atkins of Johnston, Iowa, Charlotte and husband Joel Schmidt of Clive, Iowa, Sandy Nelson of Ankeny, Robin and husband Dave Kilgore of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lori and husband Paul Groteluschen of Urbandale, Iowa, Matt Honeck and Mark and wife Steffanie Honeck all of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dawn Aneweer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 14 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Alma Heuss of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Audubon Church of Christ in Audubon, Iowa.
