Ardella T. Schlichte

Ardella Theresia Schlichte, the daughter of Anton J. and Mary (Irlmeier) Halbur, was born April 11, 1934, at her parents’ home near Roselle, Iowa and died February 28, 2017 at her home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 17 days.
Ardella was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle. She attended Holy Angels Parochial School through the 8th grade then later earned her GED. Ardella then was employed at a day care center and also worked as a house keeper for several years.
On January 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Schlichte in Auburn, Iowa. They were blessed with eleven children. They farmed in the Templeton area for many years, and then in 1974, they purchased their farm east of Audubon, Iowa. They grew row crops and raised livestock. Ardella helped Robert farm and kept busy raising the children. She raised chickens and other livestock and always had a large vegetable garden and fruit trees from which she would spend many hours canning and preserving the produce. Ardella enjoyed baking and for several years assisted baking bread for the Audubon Schools. Robert died on November 18, 1992. Ardella lived on the farm for a short time before moving to her present home in Audubon.
Ardella was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Women and attended Bible Study. She was a Board Member for Caring and Sharing and was involved in many local charities. Ardella enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for her family and charities. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her friends and family.
Preceding her in death was her husband Robert C. Schlichte; her son Edward Schlichte; her parents; and her brother-in-law Orville Schlichte and sister-in-law Vernell Schmitz.
Survivors include her children Michael and wife LuAnn Schlichte and Richard and wife Jenni Schlichte all of Carroll, Iowa, DeAnn and husband Don Sorensen of Harlan, Iowa, Lyle and wife Deb Schlichte of Des Moines, Iowa, Joyce and husband Bob Lewis of Audubon, Iowa, Jill Smith and fiancé Terry Hemry both of Polk City, Iowa, Lynn and wife Ronda Schlichte of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Debra and husband Pat Cramer of Johnston, Iowa, Kevin and wife Michelle Schlichte of Audubon, Iowa, and Brian and wife Natalie Schlichte of Carlisle, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters LeRoy and wife Donna Halbur of Santa Rosa, California, Duane and wife Carol Halbur of Des Moines, Iowa, Glen Halbur of Altoona, Iowa, LaVern and wife Berniece Halbur of Eagleville, Missouri Kenneth and wife Linda Halbur and Joleen Halbur all of Des Moines, Iowa. Linda and husband Skip Rhone of Van Meter, Iowa her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Arlene Schiltz of Manilla, Iowa, Dale and wife Theresa Schlichte of Templeton, Iowa, Della and husband Virgil Lappe of Glidden, Iowa, Bob Schmitz of Carroll, Iowa, and Mary Ann Schlichte of Spirit Lake, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening March 3, 2017, at 4:00 P.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 5:30 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Antony Mathews and Father Kenneth Halbur on Saturday morning, March 4, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be her sons Michael Schlichte, Richard Schlichte, Lyle Schlichte, Lynn Schlichte, Kevin Schlichte, and Brian Schlichte.
