Austin Brooks Alt

April 19, 1993 — March 25, 2017

Austin Brooks Alt, the son of Scott E. Alt and Sue (Gleason) Alt, was born April 19, 1993, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa and died March 25, 2017, in rural Audubon County at the age of 23 years, 11months, and 6 days.
Austin was baptized at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa and confirmed April 29, 2007, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater, Iowa. He attended the Audubon Community School the first few years. Austin then transferred to the Ballard Community Schools in January of 2000 and graduated May 22 with the Ballard High School Class of 2011. While in school he was active in baseball, tennis, and speech. He was a member of the Leroy Leaders 4-H club in Audubon and showed cattle at the Audubon County Fair. Austin worked full time at Gleason Farms and also attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he majored in Ag System Technology and was to graduate in May of 2017. He was labeled as the most competitive euchre player at Iowa State. If you attended college with him or knew him during his college years, you always knew him as the life of the party. All he ever wanted to do was show people a good time and sing a little karaoke. If you think you’ve seen someone do a good “worm” dance you probably haven’t seen “Muff” do it. On any warm day, you’d catch him swimming, fishing, or hanging with friends out at Miller’s Pond.
Austin loved spending time with family and friends. He loved the time with his four brothers and could be found outside with them playing basketball, baseball, and football. Austin had a smile and laugh that will never be forgotten.
Preceding him in death was his cousin Jesse Knights.
Austin is survived by his parents: Sue and husband Brad Essick of Carroll, Iowa and Scott and wife Mindy Alt of Audubon, Iowa; his brothers Garret Alt of Waukee, Iowa, Aiden and Evan Alt of Audubon, Iowa, and Carter Essick of Carroll, Iowa; his grandparents Rich and Lela Gleason of Audubon, Iowa, MaryLou and John Stevens of Templeton, Iowa, Gene and Sally Alt of Audubon, Iowa, Ken and Deb Essick of Webb, Iowa, and Chris and Verneta Anderson of Audubon, Iowa; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends Thursday evening March 30, 2017, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa from 4:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp and Pastor Heidi Williams on Friday morning, March 31, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
