Betty Jane Madsen

Betty Jane Madsen, the daughter of George and Edna Marie Christensen Hansen, was born September 27, 1927 at her parents’ home west of Audubon, Iowa and died November 28, 2011 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 1 day. Betty was baptized November 20, 1927 at the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon and confirmed March 29, 1942 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended rural school in Audubon County then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1945. Betty then taught rural school at Lone Willow #6 in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa. On November 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to Victor Charles Madsen, Sr. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Three sons: Victor, Jr., David and Paul were born to this union. They farmed several farms in the Audubon County area until they purchased the family farm north of Audubon in 1962. Betty helped Victor operate the farm. She raised chickens, grew vegetables and fruit. She always enjoyed making meals for the men working in the fields. They moved to Audubon in 1991. Victor died April 11, 1998. Betty lived in their home until she moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon. Betty was a member of the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. She was very active in all the church activities and enjoyed going to Bible Study. She served two terms on the Friendship Home Board and was a member of the Friendship Home Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Audubon County Extension Board and helped with Caring and Sharing. Betty enjoyed playing cards. She loved being with her family and especially enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Victor C. Sr.; her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Lars and Adellia (Lauritsen) Madsen; her sisters: Irene Hansen Andersen; Delores and husband Sid Christiansen; Ila Mae and husband Wayne Christensen; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Elmer Madsen; Earl Madsen; Esther and husband Robert McClain; Goldie Mae Holmes. Survivors include her sons Victor Jr. and wife Cindy Madsen; David Madsen; Paul and wife Shellie Madsen all of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jeffrey Madsen of Northfield, Minnesota; Mark Madsen and wife Emily Welch of San Diego, California; Eric Madsen of Audubon; Daniel Madsen of Audubon and special friend Amy Zuck and her children Ashlyn and Austin all of Hamlin, Iowa; Katie Madsen of West Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Sam Alan Madsen and Jack Ray Madsen both of San Diego; her brothers-in-law: Emmert Andersen of Milford, Iowa; Charles Holmes of Greeley, Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
