Burnice Raymond Jones

Burnice Raymond Jones, the son of Roy Walter and Ruth Shuck Jones, was born October 14, 1920, on his parents farm east of Brayton, Iowa and died December 9, 2010, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 1month, and 25 days.
Burnice was baptized as an adult when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He attended rural school, Audubon #3, east of Exira, Iowa then helped operate the family farm. In the mid 1930s Burnice and his family moved to California where he worked on his Uncles ranch for a short time. They then returned to the Exira area where he continued to farm.
In October of 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his tour of duty he served on a destroyer near the Aleutian Islands for six months then was transferred to an oil tanker in the South Pacific for the remainder of his enlistment. On December 25, 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Exira.
On May 26, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruby Dimick at the Christian Church Parsonage in Shenandoah, Iowa. They rented farms near Exira and in 1948 they purchased a farm east of Exira on Littlefield Drive. They raised livestock and grew grain for many years until they retired and sold the farm in 1998. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa where Burnice enjoyed their home until he moved into the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in October of 2005.
Burnice had been a member of the Federated Church of Christ in Exira. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting with them. He was also a member of Brayton Post #350 American Legion.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, infant brothers David Jones and Orville Jones, Donald and wife Ann Jones, and Leland Jones; his sister Nellie and husband Harold Brown; his sister-in-law Doris McCann and a nephew Richard McCann.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Jones of Atlantic, Iowa, his sister-in-law Leora Jones of St. Louis, Missouri, his brother-in-law Joe McCann of Guthrie Center, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday evening, December 13, 2010, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at the Christian Church in Exira, Iowa.
