Cheryl Ann Nickel

October 9, 1948 — April 1, 2011

Cheryl Ann Nickel, the daughter of Orville and Thelma Joens Howland, was born October 9, 1948, in Jefferson, Iowa and died April 1, 2011, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 62 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
Cheryl was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended school in Guthrie Center, Iowa through the fifth grade, and then attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1966. Following graduation she moved to Colorado where she worked for several years. She returned to Iowa and lived in Coon Rapids and was employed there for a short time.
On September 7, 1968, she was united in marriage to Danny D. Nickel at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon. Two daughters Clarissa and Jenny were born to this union. They lived in Audubon for a short time before moving to Manson, Iowa in 1974. During this time Cheryl was a home maker taking care of Dan and raising their daughters. Years later she was employed at the Good Samaritan Center in Manson where she worked as a dietary aide. In 1990 they moved to Audubon and Cheryl was employed at the Friendship Home. They moved to Minnesota in the late 1990s. Cheryl assisted Dan with their fiberglass fabrication business until she retired due to her failing health.
Cheryl loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home. Cheryl loved to cook and loved to try new recipes she would find on the food channel. During Cheryls lengthy illness, Dan has selflessly cared for her in their home as long as he was possibly able.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers an infant brother Dalton Howland and Darwin Howland.
Survivors include her husband Dan Nickel of Perham, Minnesota; her daughters Clarissa and Clair Calmer of Manson, Iowa and Jenny Fox and Mike Munch of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Elizabeth Calmer and Kady Calmer both of Manson, Ashley Fox and Kaleb Fox both of Audubon; her brother and sisters Donna and husband Marvin Straight of Gravette, Arkansas, Linda Jorgensen of Atlantic, Iowa, Sandi and husband Jerry Lauritsen of Audubon, Iowa, Delbert and wife Jayne Howland of Columbia, Missouri, Karen and husband Merle Petersen and Alane and husband Keith Wilson all of Guthrie Center, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Molly and husband Tony Mehalovich of Ankeny, Iowa, Evelyn and husband Keith Matthews of Des Moines, Iowa, Wayne Nickel of Guthrie Center, Iowa and Bill and wife Margene Nickel of Woodward, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
