Corinne Mae Smith

Corinne Mae Smith, the daughter of Harvey M. and Bernice A. Pedersen Nissen, was born June 14, 1925, at her parents home in rural Elk Horn, Iowa and died December 13, 2010, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 29 days.
Corinne was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. She attended rural school then graduated from the Elk Horn High School with the Class of 1942. She then was employed at various jobs for a short time.
On December 18, 1944, she was united in marriage to Mack Arthur Smith at the Elk Horn Lutheran Parsonage in Elk Horn. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa for a short time then returned to Elk Horn where Mack operated an auto repair and body shop for several years. On March 4, 1951, they moved to Macks fathers farm east of Brayton, Iowa which they rented for a short time before purchasing the farm several years later. Corinne worked alongside Mack helping him with the field work, raising livestock, and harvesting the crops. Corinne and Mack operated the farm until they retired from farming in 1974. Corinne then worked at the restaurant in Brayton for a short time then was employed at Larsen Ford in Exira until she retired. Mack died March 20, 2000. Corinne continued to live on the farm until she moved to the Exira Care Center in August of 2008.
Corinne was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She also belonged to the Sunshine Neighborhood Club.
Corinne was preceded in death in addition to her husband Mack, her grandchildren Shannon Wheeler and Brook Larsen; her parents; her sisters Lois and husband Earl Weddum, Marguerite Johnson; her sister-in-law Marilyn Smith and her nephew Ted Weddum.
Corinne is survived by her daughters Sue and husband Frank Derby of Panora, Iowa, Jill Smith Larsen and Joy Wheeler both of Exira, Iowa, and Jan Rasmussen of Ames, Iowa; her grandchildren Zach Wheeler of Exira, Lindsay and husband Steve Riesberg of Carroll, Iowa, McKenzie and husband Steve Flathers of Oakfield, Iowa, Katie Wheeler of Exira, Jessie Wheeler of Anita, Iowa, Cole Rasmussen of Ames, and Paige Rasmussen of Creston, Iowa; her great grandchildren Kyle Wheeler of Omaha, Nebraska, Hayden Riesberg and Rhyan Riesberg both of Carroll, Aiden Mack Flathers and Brooklyn Flathers both of Oakfield, Anthony Young and Trent Young both of Exira; her brother-in-law Frank Smith of Brayton, Iowa; a nephew Kim and wife Jean Weddum of Avoca, Iowa; other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Thursday evening, December 16, 2010, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Vicar Rory Phillips on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.
