Darla Louise Mullenger

Darla Louise Mullenger, the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy (Hansen) Errett, was born July 23, 1959, in Harlan, Iowa and passed away surrounded by her family on August 4, 2017, at her home in rural Hamlin, Iowa at the age of 58 years and 11 days.
Darla was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. She attended the Harlan Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1977. Darla studied at the Patricia Stevens College of Retail Merchandising in Omaha, Nebraska graduating in 1978. She then was employed in Carroll Iowa.
On November 4, 1978, she was united in marriage to Ronald James Mullenger at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. They were blessed with two children Amanda and Travis. They settled at the family farm near Hamlin which Ron continues to operate. Darla was a homemaker for several years, caring for the children and helping Ron farm where they grew row crops. Darla always enjoyed meeting people through retail sales and waitressing, which she started after the kids entered school. For the past 12 ½ years she enjoyed working at Quality Machine in Audubon, Iowa in the data processing and logistics department. She was a hard worker and put her heart and soul into everything she did.
Darla was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa where she helped with Vacation Bible School. She was a member of Eastern Star and was very active holding many local offices. Darla also held the State Eastern Star office of Grand Esther in 2015 as part of the Beachcomber Grand Family through which Darla and Ron have met and made many wonderful friends. Darla enjoyed making crafts and sewing. She enjoyed playing games and cards. She liked to travel and spend time at their lake home on Blackhawk Lake. Darla loved decorating for the holidays especially Christmas. But most of all she loved being with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Virlee Mullenger; and her nephew Michael Schmidt.
Survivors include her husband Ron Mullenger of Hamlin, Iowa; her children Amanda Vaughn and friend Jeff Brown of Kansas City, Kansas and Travis and wife Amanda Mullenger of Manning, Iowa; her grandchildren Alexander Vaughn of Kansas City and Haley Jo Mullenger of Manning; her brother Duane and wife Vickie Errett of Harlan, Iowa; her sister Candace Errett of Toledo, Washington; her sisters-in-law Lori and husband John Bolick of Gray, Iowa and Julie and husband Dean Schmidt of Audubon, Iowa; her aunt Pat Mullenger of Hamlin, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with family and friends Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. There will be a Scripture service at 6:45 P. M. followed by an Eastern Star service. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis on Wednesday morning, August 9, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. Honorary casket bearers will be Sherry Storjohann, Diane Rattenborg, Bobbi Richmond, Janet Schreck, Karla Mercieca, Pat Closs, Linda Roy, and Isabel Zvorak. The casket bearers will be Kendall Spies, Mark Trecker, Jerry Roy, Bob Magner, Jeff Storjohann, Roger Nelson, Darwin Rattenborg, and Rodney Turner.
