Darrell Hans Rattenborg

Darrell Hans Rattenborg, the son of Clarence Harvey and Myrtle Loretta (Jacobsen) Rattenborg, was born June 30, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa and died October 12, 2012, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 62 years, 3 months, and 12 days. Darrell was baptized and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa and on December 18, 1972 he was rebaptized at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. He attended rural schools west of Audubon then graduated from the Audubon High School with the class of 1968. He attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa for two years then returned to the Audubon area where he was employed as a farm hand for Dale Henriksen for a short time. Darrell then worked selling auto parts for NAPA. On June 23, 1972, he was united in marriage to Jacque Hoesing at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. One son Chad was born to this union. Darrell continued working for NAPA until July 1978. Since that time he was employed as the shop foreman for the Audubon County Secondary Roads Department until he retired on October 15, 2010. During retirement Darrell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Darrell was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He played softball for a few years and was a member of the Bass Club where he won several awards. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Judy and husband Bill Sage, Joan Nietzel, and Jim Hoesing Survivors include his wife Jacque Rattenborg of Audubon, Iowa; his son Chad and wife Tammy Rattenborg of Webster City, Iowa; his grandchildren: Chase Carter Rattenborg and Sierra Noelle Rattenborg both of Webster City; his twin brother Darwin and wife Diane Rattenborg of Audubon; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Janet and husband Tom Hall of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; Jean and husband Ron Perkins of Owing Mills, Maryland; Joyce and husband Brian Ahlquist of Sugarland, Texas; June and husband Jack Carlisle of Lincoln, Nebraska; Joletta Hoesing of Omaha, Nebraska; Jerrilyn Fisher of Omaha; Leonard Nietzel of Audubon; Pat Hoesing of Battle Creek, Michigan; his aunts and uncle: Roy and wife Evie Rattenborg of Paxton, Illinois; Alice Mendenhall of Atlantic, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowa.
