Deane LaVerne St. Peter, son of Willard and Fern Royce St. Peter, was born November 7, 1927, at his parents home in Greene County, near Grand Junction, Iowa and died December 13, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 6 days.
Deane was baptized at the Providence Church in Scranton, Iowa and later confirmed as an adult at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Grand Junction and graduated from the Scranton High School with the Class of 1945. He then helped operate the family farm near Scranton.
On October 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to Joy J. Madsen at Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. Three children were born to this union. He continued to farm and then on January 21, 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was an Ordinance Instructor stationed in Atlanta, GA. He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1953. Deane and Joy moved to her parents farm west of Audubon and operate a grain and livestock farm until the present time.
Deane was an active member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday School and had served as the Sunday School Superintendent. He served on the church council and was a Youth Sponsor. He loved to sing and sang for many special occasions. His grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was also Grandpa to many other children. Deanes faith was most important to him and he lived his faith every day.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers: Gerald St. Peter, Royce St. Peter, Lowell St. Peter; his sister: Lois St. Peter; his sisters-in-law and his brothers-in-law: Doris Lauritsen, Clair Madsen, Rosa Marie Madsen, and Morris Verdini.
Survivors include his wife: Joy J. St. Peter of Audubon, IA; his children: Susan and husband Steve Forrest of West Des Moines, IA; Randy St. Peter; Linda St. Peter both of Audubon; and Ron and wife Melanie St. Peter of Kimballton, IA; his grandchildren: Ronelle St. Peter of Audubon; Dr. Sonya St. Peter of Pleasantville, IA; Amber Forrest of Clive, IA; Cassie St. Peter and her friend Nathan Lind both of Ft. Dodge, IA; Ryan St. Peter of Iowa City, IA; Chase St. Peter of Ankeny, IA and Rachelle St. Peter of Audubon; his sister: Charlotte Verdini of Arroyo Grande, CA; his sisters-in-law Doris St. Peter of Guthrie Center, IA; Mary Ann St. Peter of Scranton, IA; his brother-in-law: Virgil Lauritsen of Sac City, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery west of Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Paul Sorlien on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon.
