Deloris Leola Knudsen

Deloris Leola Knudsen, the daughter of Leo and Beulah (Johnson) Borkowski, was born January 8, 1930, at her parents’ home in Audubon County south of Viola, Iowa and died May 5, 2018, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 27 days.
Deloris was baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church and received into full communion on June 1, 1947 by Rev. Boehlke. She attended the Viola school graduating with the High School Class of 1948. Deloris took training then taught in a one room school for a short time.
On March 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Frank Vernon Knudsen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Lora Lee, Denise, and Kurt. They farmed for many years growing grain crops and raising livestock. Frank died in 1979 and Deloris lived on the farm for a short time then moved into Audubon. She worked various jobs and then was employed at the Friendship Home until she retired. Deloris was always involved in the Audubon Community and enjoyed volunteering at the Good Neighbor Center and New Opportunities. She enjoyed her home and then later moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon.
Deloris was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She enjoyed making pies and having coffee with her family and friends. While in the Friendship Home Deloris enjoyed stopping at her many friends’ rooms and chatting and keeping everyone updated on the progress of the remodeling.
Preceding her in death was her husband Frank V. Knudsen; her parents; her brothers Dalton and wife Edna Borkowski and Dallas and wife Arlene Borkowski; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Elaine and husband Ernest Christensen, Lenard and wife Marge Knudsen, and Ilamae and husband Edward Ahrendsen; and her nephews Russell Borkowski and Stephen Borkowski.
Survivors include her children Lora Lee and husband Larry Anthofer of Audubon, Iowa, Denise Knudsen of Verona, Wisconsin, and Kurt Knudsen (Angie Fritzler) of Alliance, Nebraska; her grandchildren Alan and wife Shannon Anthofer of Carroll, Iowa, Teresa Anthofer and husband Jeff Monday of Tucson, Arizona, and Matthew Anthofer of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Kayla, Jacob, and Brandon Knudsen all of Alliance, Nebraska; her great grandchildren Marissa, James, and Colin Anthofer all of Carroll, Iowa and Harper and Naomi Monday both of Tucson, Arizona, Jayden, Macie, Brysen, Kasen, and Landen all of Alliance, Nebraska; her sister DeEtta and husband Rev. Steve Rasmussen of Fort Madison, Iowa; her sister-in-law Marjorie Knudsen of Westchester, Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholtz on Friday June 8, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Alan Anthofer, Teresa Anthofer, Matt Anthofer, Gary Borkowski, Steven Sprague, and Lyle “Chip” Hansen III. The family will meet with friends from 9:00 am, until the time of the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. The family prefers memorials to the Friendship Home Foundation or St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa
