Doris Elaine Hollister, the daughter of Adolph and Christine Rasmussen Christensen, was born September 28, 1928, at her parents home in Hamlin Township,Audubon County, Iowa and died April 20, 2010, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 6 months, and 22 days.
Doris was baptized May 19, 1929, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Hamlin, Iowaand confirmed April 18, 1943, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She attended rural school, Melville #3, northeast of Audubon and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1946. Doris was employed as aSteno for the Audubon County Department of SocialWelfare.
On October 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Robert Hoyt Hollister at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. One son, Brian, was born to this union. Doris continued to work for the County for a total of thirteenyears,then became a home maker andhelped Robert operate their farm. They first farmed in Melville Township, then in Leroy Township, before purchasing their farm in Melville Township in 1967. They retired from farming and moved into Audubon in the fall of 1998. Robert died on January 10, 2003. Doris enjoyed her home for several years before moving to the Friendship Home in December of 2006.
Doris had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon since December 28, 1952. She had also been a member of the Presbyterian Women.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Robert; were her parents; her sister: Arlene and husband Dallas Borkowski.
Survivors include her son: Brian Hollister of Audubon, Iowa, her brothers-in-law: Glen and wife Arlette Hollister of Des Moines, Iowa, and Dean and wife Mary Hollister of Audubon; her nieces and nephews: Mark and wife Chris Hollister of Des Moines, Debra and husband Mark Johnson of Ankeny, Iowa, Ann and husband Tim Huegerich of Exira, Iowa, Steve Borkowski of Audubon, Connie and husband Steve Casson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sandra and husband Dave Koch of Newton, Iowa and Jill and husband Jim Neleman of Audubon; many great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Memorials:
The family prefers memorials to the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kay E. Steddom on Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa.
