Doris Faye Stenstrom Richards

Doris Faye Stenstrom Richards, the daughter of Raymond and Maude (Gymer) Storm, was born May 17, 1927, in Storm Lake, Iowa and died November 9, 2020, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months, and 23 days.

Doris was baptized as an adult at the Coon Rapids Christian Church in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended Jefferson and Scranton Community Schools, graduating with the Scranton High School Class of 1944. After graduation, she was employed with the Jefferson Telephone Company in Jefferson for five years.

On July 2, 1949, she was united in marriage to Albert Stenstrom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: David, Nancy and Lori. In 1949, they made their home in Coon Rapids and she worked alongside Albert, where they owned and operated Stenstrom Construction Company for more than 50 years. In their younger years, they enjoyed going roller skating and square dancing and spent numerous hours with the Land Improvement Contractors of Iowa. Albert died on July 6, 2003.

In May of 2009, she was united in marriage to Herman Richards at the Coon Rapids Christian Church in Coon Rapids. They enjoyed going fishing and camping together and loved to spend their winters down in Texas for a few years. Herman died in March of 2015. In 2015, she moved to the Thomas Rest Haven assisted living in Coon Rapids before making her home in Exira, Iowa at MJ Estates in 2017. In March of 2020, she moved to the Exira Care Center.

She was a member of the Coon Rapids Christian Church in Coon Rapids, where she taught Sunday school for several years and was active in the Women’s Church Circle. She was a life-long member of the (LICA) Land Improvement Contractors of America and served as secretary for more than 45 years for the LICA. Doris loved to be working with her hands, with a few of her favorite activities being: sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and woodworking.

Preceding her in death were her husbands, Albert George Stenstrom and Herman Richards; her infant granddaughter, Jennifer Stenstrom; her grandson, Justin Stenstrom; her parents; and her brothers: Bill Storm, Russell Storm, and Jim Storm.

Survivors include her children: David and wife Deb Stenstrom of Exira, Iowa; Nancy Stenstrom of Louisville, Kentucky; and Lori Stenstrom of Henry, Illinois; her grandchildren: John and wife Melissa Stenstrom, Matt Stenstrom, and Joshua Stenstrom; her brother, Dennis and wife Judy Storm of Harlan, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Gene and wife Karen Walker of West Des Moines, Iowa; her sisters-in-law, Luann Overgard and LaReine Storm, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the Orange Township Cemetery in rural Coon Rapids, Iowa with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. There will be an open visitation on Thursday, November 12, 2020, from 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. The family will not be present during the open visitation. Interment will be in the Orange Township Cemetery in rural Coon Rapids, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers will be John Stenstrom, Matt Stenstrom, Melissa Stenstrom, Mark Storm, Carolynn Storm, and Kirk Storm. Memorials are preferred to the family for a later designation. The Kessler Funeral Home in Exira is in charge of her arrangements.
