Elaine Louise Witt

January 12, 1936 — September 23, 2022

Elaine Louise Witt, 86, was born January 12, 1936 in Audubon County, Iowa, and grew up attending Audubon County rural school, Gray, Iowa elementary school, and later graduating from the Audubon Community High School in 1953 with honors, and lettering in band. Elaine studied photography at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for two years. Her fellow graduate, William “Bud” J. Witt, became her partner for life on December 18, 1954, when they joined in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Elaine and Bud shared everything in life, including her enjoyment for music, photography and flowers, for the next 69 years. They first lived in Storm Lake, Iowa, and later in Carroll, Iowa, finally moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1959, where they remained for 60+ years. In 2017, they moved to The Woodlands, Texas to be near family and enjoy the warmer climate.

Elaine’s high school yearbook stated her ambition to be “…any type of work I can find satisfaction in…” She successfully fulfilled that ambition gaining employment wherever she was, first as a waitress, then bookkeeper and/or office administrator throughout her professional career at various companies, including Midstates Equipment Company, Northwestern Bell Telephone, and Creighton University. As a working mother before it was chic, she taught her children that a woman could still be a loving mother while pursuing her professional goals.

Elaine is survived by her husband, William J. Witt; daughter, Joan, and husband, Steve Kowalski, their children Steven, Kelsey and Kara from Omaha Nebraska; daughter, Maggie, and husband, Michael Davis, their daughters, Katy Kiger and Courtney Davis from Omaha, Nebraska; son, Woody, and wife, Michelle Witt, their daughters, Christianne and Caroline Witt, from The Woodlands Texas area; sister, Ila, and husband, Dan Gilbert of Ankeny, Iowa; her sister-in-law Luella Borkowski; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends near and far, but all very close in heart. Elaine’s sister, Nancy Holloway, passed away on November 18, 2022. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Alfred A. and Olive A.
