Eugene Leonard Stoberl

October 22, 1951 — January 25, 2016

Eugene “Gene” Leonard Stoberl, the son of Leonard and Margaret (Vonesh) Stoberl, was born October 22, 1951, at the Manning General Hospital in Manning, Iowa and died January 25, 2016, at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver, Colorado at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
Gene was baptized at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning, Iowa and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school in Audubon County and graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1970. He then helped his father operate the family farm.
In August of 1971, he was united in marriage to Debra Finnerty at the Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. Two children Joseph and Teresa were born to this union. The lived on the family farm near Manning, Iowa.
Later in June of 1977, he married Mary Mountain at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning. They had three children Claire, Bobbie Gene, and Mary Frances. Gene continued farming until the death of his father in 1985. They moved to Wilmer, Minnesota where he was employed at the Johnson Fur Company for a few years. They then moved to Le Mars, Iowa where he was the District Manager for Lieske Genetics for several years. Gene moved to Lake Heron, Minnesota. He enjoyed being a salesman and was the representative for several feed companies over the years. Later he then moved to Denver, Colorado.
Gene loved to hunt, fish, and trap. In his early years he and his faithful dog would travel to different areas of the state and participate in coon hunts and received many trophies in the process. Gene also was very mechanical and when he was younger he actually built and raced his own stock cars and won many races.
Preceding him in death in addition to his father Leonard Stoberl , were his grandparents Frank and Clara Vonesh and Anton and Clara Stoberl.
Survivors include his children Joseph Stoberl and Teresa and husband Todd Weidmeier all of Des Moines, Iowa, Claire Stoberl-Atler and her husband Michael of Englewood, Colorado, Bobbie Gene and husband William Mashburn and Mary Frances Stoberl all of Kansas City, Missouri; his grandchildren Charlie Stoberl, Johnny Stoberl, Eddie Stoberl, Will Weidmeier, Zoey Ford, Dakota Ford, Charlotte Mashburn, Madeline Mashburn and Gauge Mann; his mother Margaret Stoberl of Audubon, Iowa; his brothers and sisters David and wife Val Stoberl and Kathy and husband Steve Johnston all of Audubon, Iowa, Dennis and wife Jenny Stoberl of Manning, Iowa, and Lisa and husband Ronald Reed of Show Low, Arizona.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be conducted by Reverend Father Antony Mathew on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 11:00 A.M at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa. The honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren Zoey Ford, Dakota Ford, Charlotte Mashburn, Madeline Mashburn, Gauge Mann, Will Weidmeier, Charlie Stoberl, Johnny Stoberl, and Eddie Stoberl. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. .
