Evelyn Dorothy Asberry

Evelyn Dorothy Asberry, the daughter of Royal and Anna (Larsen) Wells, was born November 5, 1936, at her parents’ home in Exira, Iowa and died September 17, 2018, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Evelyn was baptized May 23, 1937, and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1955. Evelyn then was employed at the Chris Hess Gas Station where she was in charge of sending out statements.
On March 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert DeWitt Asberry in Topeka, Kansas. They were blessed with three children Robert Vickie, and John. Evelyn continued working at the gas station until in 1964 she started working for Tober’s Clothing in Atlantic, Iowa where she worked for a several years. She worked for Talbot-Carlson, Inc. in Audubon, Iowa from 1967 until March of 1973. On March 3, 1973, she became the manager with A. M. Cohron and Son, Inc. in Atlantic, Iowa where she was employed until she retired in 2001. Evelyn enjoyed raising and breeding horses with her husband Bob. Bob died October 21, 2015. Evelyn enjoyed her home for many years then moved to the Exira Care Center in July of 2018.
Evelyn was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Evelyn and Bob were members of several area saddle clubs. They were members of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Palomino Horse Breeders of America, and the Paint Horse Association. They had raised and shown horses extensively throughout the Midwest states showing numerous Grand, Reserve, and World Champions.
Preceding her in death was her husband Robert DeWitt Asberry; her parents; and her brothers and sister Mary Ann Petersen, Donald Wells, and Robert Wells.
Survivors include her children; Bobby Dee and wife Shelli Asberry, Vickie Ann Asberry, and John and wife Denise Asberry all of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren Estee and husband Ryan Roe of Clive, Iowa, Chad and wife Ashley Asberry of West Des Moines, Iowa, Blake Asberry and fiancée Claire Paulsen, and Lexi and Brett Christensen all of Exira, Iowa, Jenny Henningsen and Scott Petersen of Audubon, Iowa, Deric Henningsen of Exira, Iowa, Nicole and husband Cody Seaman of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Sarah Asberry and husband Richard Metson of Essex, England U.K., Charlie and wife Steph Asberry, Jan Asberry and Brent Asberry all of Exira, Iowa; her great grandchildren Nash and London Roe both of Clive, Iowa, Lane and Lincoln Christensen both of Exira, Iowa Ellie and Piper Asberry of West Des Moines, Iowa, Chase Petersen of Davenport, Iowa, Whitney Petersen of Iowa City, Iowa, Kya, and Bryli Petersen all of Audubon, Iowa, Macie, Charlie, Finley, Huxley, Evie and Annie Seaman all of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Ira Metson of Essex, England U.K., and Drew Asberry of Exira, Iowa; her special cousins David and wife Berniece Larsen and Carol Fleming, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held Sunday, September 23, 2018, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 3:30 P.M. conducted by Pastor Alan Seehusen at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The family will have a private inurnment at a later date in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
