Evelyn Joann Huffman

Evelyn Joann Huffman, the daughter of Theodore and Nellie Petersen Madsen, was born April 22, 1927, at her Aunt’s home near Exira, Iowa and died December 28, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 6 days. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1945. She then helped at home. On October 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne Eugene Huffman at the Methodist Church in Audubon by Reverend Orf. Three children: Judith, Jane, and James were born to this union. They operated farms in Lincoln Township and Douglas Township for many years. Evelyn was a homemaker during this time, but also helped Wayne farm. Wayne had to retire from farming and they moved to Hamlin, Iowa. Evelyn sold Avon part-time. They moved to Audubon and Evelyn was employed as a clerk at Deuel Drug in Audubon for several years. Later she worked as a secretary for the Audubon City Clerk. She then worked at the Audubon lumberyard until she retired. During retirement Wayne and Evelyn enjoyed camping, fishing, and visiting with neighbors. Evelyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and they were members of the Audubon County Travelers. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Wayne E. Huffman; her son James Eugene Huffman; her great granddaughter Megan Hanner; her parents; her sisters: Iva Mae and husband Russell Ralph; Annabelle and husband Emmert Kallesen; her sister and brother who died in infancy; and her brothers-in-law: Raymon Dreher, Guy Huffman and Lyle Huffman. Survivors include her daughters: Judy and husband Eugene Schoeppner of Lincoln, Nebraska; Jane and husband LaVern Korwes of Carroll, Iowa; her grandchildren: Troy and wife Rebecca Schoeppner of Lees Summit, Missouri; Jill and husband Daniel Hurtz of Columbus, Nebraska; Beth Miller of Lincoln, Nebraska; Michele and husband Joe Hanner of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Melissa and husband Tom Wolbers of Des Moines, Iowa; Ryan and wife Tracy Schlater of Cambridge, Iowa; Jason Huffman of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Tiffany Huffman and Lacey Huffman both of Ft. Worth, Texas; 12 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; several step great great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Mildred Dreher of Audubon; Jerry and wife Shirley Huffman of Las Vegas, Nevada; Beverly Huffman of Prosper, Texas; Verla Huffman of Blanchard, Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Sunday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 1:00 P. M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
