Frank James Claussen

Frank James Claussen, the son of William and Thelma Clara (Petersen) Claussen, was born December 16, 1947, at his parents’ home in Anita, Iowa, and died January 12, 2016, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 68 years, and 26 days.
Frank was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa. He attended the Anita Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1967. Frank moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he studied auto and engine repair. He then worked at the Union 66 gas station and did road construction. On October 30, 1967, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served as an engine powertrain repairman and was stationed in Vietnam. Frank was honorably discharged on August 6, 1970 and returned to the Anita area.
On August 23, 1970, he was united in marriage to Martha Rae “Skeeter” Roberts at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. Frank was employed as a carpenter by Lester Clemsen of Atlantic, Iowa for many years. Lester retired and Frank continued to work as a carpenter until he had to retire due to his failing health. Martha “Skeeter” died on June 7, 2013. Frank has continued to live at their home.
Frank always enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands. He enjoyed watching old Westerns, and spending time in his flower garden. Frank liked to just tinker around in his yard then sit and watch people while he enjoyed an ice cold Coca Cola. He was almost always seen with his faithful companion Curly. One of his greatest joys was to spend time with his nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Martha “Skeeter” Claussen; his parents Bill and Thelma Claussen; and his niece Melissa Dawn Claussen.
Survivors include his brothers and sister Sherman and wife Thelma Claussen of Irwin, Iowa, Herm and wife Deb Claussen of Lawson, Missouri, Olinda and Jim Krause of Massena, Iowa, and Bill and Kathy Claussen of Atlantic, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Mitch Holmes on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:00 A.M. at the Anita American Legion Hall in Anita, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date. The honorary casket bearers will be Travis Claussen, Trent Claussen, Chris Claussen, Clint Claussen, Cody Claussen, Chuck Krause, Bud Claussen, Luke Claussen, Ed Claussen, and Roger Claussen.
