Gertrude Edith Krauel

Gertrude Edith Krauel, the daughter of Alvin and Mary (Schrader) Robinson, was born July 26, 1921, at her parents’ home in Audubon, Iowa and died January 28, 2017, at the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa at the age of 95years, 6 months, and 2 days.
Gertrude was baptized and confirmed at the First Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Audubon Community School through the eighth grade then was employed as a “hired girl” for several families in the Audubon area.
On March 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to Emmert Krauel in Atlantic, Iowa. Four children, Emmert, Jr., Kim, Collin, and Jocelyn were born to this union. They farmed near Viola, Iowa. Gertrude was a homemaker while they lived on the farm. She was an accomplished seamstress and made and mended clothes for many people. Gertrude enjoyed cooking and baking she made delicious breads, rolls, pies, and many other wonderful treats. In 1978 she moved into Audubon and was employed in the bakery at the Super Valu Grocery Store until she retired. During retirement Gertrude continued sewing and mending clothes for others. She enjoyed her home for many years then move to the Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa in August of 2014.
Gertrude was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was very creative and loved to decorate her home. She enjoyed the holidays and always a large meal for the family. Gertrude loved the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was an infant son Collin Krauel; an infant granddaughter Teresa Krauel, an infant grandson Chesney Krauel, and infant twin grandchildren; her parents; her sister Ellen Christensen; her twin brother Glen Robinson; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leon Schwab, Leroy and wife Mabel Krauel, Ester and husband Orville Mozena, Ollivene and husband Victor Eddy, Lewis and wife Arlene Krauel, Cameron Krauel, and Lavern and wife Geneva Krauel.
Survivors include her children Emmert Krauel, Jr. of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, Kim and wife Barb Krauel of Audubon, Iowa, and Jocelyn Shephard of Wahoo, Nebraska; her grandchildren James and wife Gaylene Krauel, Eugene and Barb Krauel, Nathan Krauel, Matthew Krauel all of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sarah Smith of Audubon, Iowa, Christopher Krauel and fiancée Marie Moreno-Pardo both of Overland Park, Kansas, and Nicholas Krauel of Beaumont, Texas; her great grandchildren; her sister Lucille Schwab and sister-in-law Faye Krauel both of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment of the cremains will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.
