Glee I. Huey

October 13, 1924 — July 8, 2015

Glee I. Huey, the son of Iles K. and Bessie I. (Gapen) Huey, was born October 13, 1924, at his parents’ home in Texsam, South Dakota and died July 8, 2015, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 25 days.
Glee was baptized and confirmed at the White River Methodist Church in White River, South Dakota. He attended school in White River and Oto, Iowa before graduating from the Irwin High School in Irwin, Iowa with the Class of 1945. Glee then helped operate the family farm.
On March 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lillie Petersen at the Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa. Glee worked for his father on the Heck Farm near Irwin and then worked for Omar Antastasi north of Harlan, Iowa for a time. He later worked for Melvin Petersen east of Redline, Iowa. Gaylin was born in August of 1950. In 1952 they moved to their present farm. Vickie was born in March of 1953. Farming was Glee’s life. He grew row crops and loved feeding livestock. Every fall Glee would buy cattle to consume the crops he had raised and then shipped them to Omaha, Nebraska where they were sold and when Omaha closed he then sold them in Dunlap, Iowa. He continued to raise cattle and hogs until he retired in 2008. Glee then would help Gaylin whenever he was needed. Glee and Lillie enjoyed their home in the country. Later Glee moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in January of 2015 when his health failed.
Glee was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. He enjoyed going to a sale of any kind where he might purchase a box full of interesting items and then spending many hours rummaging through the box to find its many hidden treasures. Glee also was a creative welder and enjoyed making different types of “art” projects.
