Hans Rasmus Johnson, the son of Martin and Mathilda Rasmussen Johnson was born November 21, 1919 at his grandparent’s home near Brayton, Iowa and died July 16, 2012 at the Life Care Center in Elkhorn, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 25 days. Hans was baptized at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa and confirmed at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa. He attended rural school in Oakfield Township through the eighth grade. In 1939 he attended Tech School in Des Moines, Iowa. He then moved to California where he was employed by Douglas Aircraft Company where he worked on airplanes. On June 22, 1944, he enlisted in to the United States Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater as a Coxswain 2nd Class on the U.S.S. Hyde. Hans was present at Tokoyo Bay and saw the surrender of Japan. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1946. On August 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Naomi N. Fordyce at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Griswold, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Hans then owned and operated his farm west of Brayton his entire life. Hans was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. He was a member of the Brayton American Legion Post #350 and the Masonic Lodge, Exodus #342, Exira. Hans enjoyed gardening, traveling, dancing, playing cards, and socializing with his friends and family. Preceding him in death was his wife Naomi Johnson; his infant daughter Barbara Johnson; his son-in-law Merrill Sommer; his parents; and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Francis Fordyce; Eldon and Janet Fordyce. Survivors include his children: Janet and husband Dr. Larry Eichmeier of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Nyle and wife Sally Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; Cheryl and husband James Scott of Golden Valley, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Kila Sommer of Lee’s Summit; Dan and wife Chaundra Eichmeier and their children Sara and Andrew all of Valparaiso, Indiana; David and wife Ali Johnson and their daughters Natalie and Mackenzie all of Omaha; Greg and wife Karen Johnson and their sons Drew, Nathan, and Lucas all of Omaha; Jennifer Johnson of Omaha; Erika and husband Emilio Moreno and their children Ilisa, Colin, Isabella, and Bianca all of Blair, Nebraska; Kristi and husband Brian Wilson and their children Jack, Riley, Caitlin, and Grady all of Omaha; Isaac Scott of Golden Valley; his sister-in-law: Betty Fordyce of Oelwein, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton, Iowa.
Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa.
