Harold Lewis Schroeter

Harold Lewis Schroeter, The son of Fred August and Pearl Ellen Rice Schroeter, was born May 30, 1916, at his parents home in Audubon County, Iowa and died July 12, 2009, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 12 days.
Harold was baptized April 8, 1917, and confirmed April 22, 1956, at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. He attended rural school near Viola, Iowa and then attended Viola High School. Harold then helped operate the family farm.
On November 23, 1941, he was united in marriage to Anna Bager Overgaard in Tarkio, Missouri. Four Children: Carol, Harold Douglas, Verla and Neil were born to this union. They operated several farms in Audubon County area. They retired from farming and moved into Audubon. Harold was employed by Bill Layland Insulation for several years and then they moved to Exira. In 1957, Harold began working for the City of Exira. During this time he worked city maintenance, law enforcement and other duties requested of him. He worked for the city until he retired in 1981. During retirement, Harold helped other farmers, and raised a large garden. Harold and Anna enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives in Oregon, Texas and California. Harolds passion was fishing and he enjoyed fishing in many different areas. They lived in Exira until they moved to Atlantic in December of 2005. Later, Harold moved into the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in September of 2006.
Harold was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church.
Preceding him in death is his parents; his in-laws: Martin and Mariane Overgaard; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Everett Pope; Rita and Orrin Schnell; Eben and Rose Overgaard; Arne and Frances Overgaard; Andrew Overgaard; Eileen and Clyde Hansen; Elmer Pedersen; John Overgaard.
Survivors include his wife Anna B. Schroeter of Atlantic, IA; his children: Carol and husband Pastor Stephen Gronseth of Atlantic, IA; Doug and wife Sherri Schroeter of McKinney, TX; Verla and husband Ben Heath of Atlantic, IA; Neil and wife Lavonne Schroeter of Brayton, IA; his grandchildren: Wade and wife Roxanne Nelson of Harlan, IA; Christopher and wife Wendy Nelson of LeRoy, IL; John and wife Erin Nelson of Downs, IL; Aaron and wife Jeannie Schroeter of Celina, TX; Troy Schroeter of McKinney, TX; Stacey and husband Blake Dickerson of Celina, TX; Stephanie Wells of Celina, TX; Noele Tyson of Audubon, IA; Dawn Hepler and fianc George Dvorak of Atlantic, IA; Jeremy Heath of Atlantic, IA; Leslie and husband Matt Irwin of Omaha, NE; Trevor and wife Rebecca Schroeter of Exira, IA; 36 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great-great Grandchildren; his sister: Frieda Pope of Oregon City, OR; his sister-in-law: Marian Pedersen of Atlantic, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Wicks on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, IA.
