Harvey Henry Poulsen

March 23, 1926 — November 15, 2018

Harvey Henry Poulsen, the son of Henry and Katrine (Bork) Poulsen, was born March 23, 1926, at his parents’ home in rural Audubon, County, Iowa and died November 15, 2018, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 22 days.
Harvey was baptized and confirmed at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school through the eighth grade then helped operate the family farm. On August 1, 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed with the Army of Occupation in Germany where he drove light trucks. Harvey was honorably discharged on January 2, 1947 and returned home and resumed farming.
On November 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Bjorn at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church west of Brayton, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Pamela, John, and Penny. They rented farm land east of Audubon for several years then when Harvey’s father died they moved onto the home place. They grew row crops and raised livestock for a few years then purchased the farm. In the early 1980’s they moved into Audubon and Harvey helped several area farmers. Harvey and Betty then were the custodians at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon for over 14 years until he retired. Harvey’s passion was farming and during retirement he enjoyed driving around the countryside checking on all the crops and going to the Chatterbox Café to have coffee with friends.
Harvey was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He was a life member of Dale Christensen Post #4119 V.F.W. and was a member of the Audubon County Fair Board for many years. He enjoyed bowling, was a 4-H leader for several years and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.
Preceding him in death was his son John Poulsen; his great grandson Jacob Poulsen; his son-in-law Todd Fisher; his parents; his brother Orville Poulsen; His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Harvey Jensen, Elaine Landon, Barbara and husband Buel Lensch, Paul Bjorn, Dick Bjorn, Bob McCollough, and David Diehl.
Survivors include his wife Betty Poulsen of Audubon, Iowa; his daughters Pamela and husband Robert Jensen of Audubon, Iowa and Penny Fisher of West Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren Stephanie and husband Joe Hughes of Walnut, Iowa, Jeremy Jensen of Rapid City, South Dakota, Meredith and husband Billy Frisbey of Tucson, Arizona, Nicholas and wife Jamie Jensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Clinton Poulsen of Bunceton, Missouri, Ashley Poulsen of Booneville, Missouri, Cortney Poulsen of Blue Springs, Missouri, Jordan Poulsen of Bunceton, Missouri, Tyler and wife Lindsey Fisher of Overland Park, Kansas, and Austin Fisher of West Des Moines, Iowa; 18 great grandchildren; his sister Carrie Jensen of Exira, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill and wife Barbara Bjorn of Creston, Iowa, Gary and wife Sandy Bjorn of Kansas City, Missouri, Jeanette McCollough Camano Island, Washington, and Karen Diehl of Port Hueneme, California: nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Monday afternoon, November 19, 2018, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Menter on Monday November 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Greg Jensen, Mark Jensen, Stephanie Hughes, Meredith Frisbey, Ashley Poulsen, and Cortney Poulsen. The casket bearers will be his grandsons Jeremy Jensen, Nicholas Jensen, Clinton Poulsen, Jordan Poulsen, Tyler Fisher, and Austin Fisher.
