Irma Jean Weber

May 18, 1931 — December 19, 2021

Irma Jean Weber, the daughter of Lafe and Myrtle (McMurphy) Fairchild, was born May 18, 1931, at her parents’ home in Polk Township in Shelby County near Poplar, Iowa and died December 19, 2021, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 7 months, and 1 day.

Irma was baptized as an adult with several members of her family at the Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa. She attended rural Audubon County schools then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1949.

On February 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to George Weber at the Methodist Parsonage in Gray, Iowa. Irma returned to school and graduated then helped George operate the farm. Their union was blessed with four children Mary, Michael, Pamela, and Robert. They rented farms in Audubon County and Shelby County for a number of years then purchased George’s Father’s farm when his Father retired. They grew row crops, milked cows, and raised livestock. Like every good farm wife, Irma helped George farm, cared for the children, took meals to the fields, cared for the chickens and other exotic animals, and tended to both a large vegetable garden and flower garden. Irma was an accomplished seamstress and made many of the children’s clothing. After many years of operating the farm, Irma and George retired from farming in the late1990’s. George passed away in 2000. Irma lived on the farm for a short time then moved into Audubon, Iowa in the spring of 2001. To keep herself busy, Irma was employed at Places which later became Pamida for several years. She volunteered at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon and delivering food for children programs through New Opportunities and also helped with the food pantry.

Irma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon and was a member of a neighborhood club while living out on the farm. She loved sewing with her sisters and doing many fun activities with them. But most of all she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participating in their many activities.

Preceding her in death was her husband George Weber; her parents; her sisters; Leola, Leona, Norene, Ramona, and Dixie.
