James Richard Perkins

James Richard Perkins, the son of James H. and Julia A. Quick Perkins, was born July 9, 1960 at the Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado and died June 3, 2012 at Bryan Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 51 years, 10 months, and 24 days. James was baptized in Denver, Colorado and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon, Iowa. He attended school in Springfield, South Dakota and when the family moved to Audubon, Iowa in 1969 he attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1978. James enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Special Forces. On November 27, 1981, he was united in marriage to Sylvia McArthur at the Special Forces Chapel in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. James was honorably discharged from active duty in 1986. He then attended Iowa State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. James was employed as an operation officer for Burke Marketing in Nevada, Iowa for many years. For the past six years he has been the Safety Director for Rembrandt Enterprises in Rembrandt, Iowa. James was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion and V.F.W. in Audubon. James was a member of the Des Moines Sky Divers Club. He was an avid cyclist and was a member of the RAGBRAI bike team “Team Blonde.” He also loved to hunt deer and pheasant. James was preceded in death by his mother Julia A. Perkins; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Edith Avant. Survivors include his wife Sylvia Perkins of Rembrandt, Iowa; his children: William and wife Susan Perkins of Linden, North Carolina; Patrick Perkins, Heather Perkins, and Jennifer Perkins all of Ames, Iowa; his granddaughter Alison Perkins of Linden; his parents James H. and Annette Perkins of Audubon, Iowa; his brother and sister: Jayne and husband Fred Gibson of Ft. Lewis, Washington; Joel and wife Melissa Perkins of Nevada, Iowa; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill and wife Cindy McArthur of Houston, Texas; Heinz and wife Cynthia McArthur of Cary, North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery west of Audubon.



Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Mark Youngquist on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon, Iowa.
