Janice Lucille Black

Janice Lucille Black, the daughter of Raymond “Jay” Charles and Hazel Mildred (Wright) Johnson, was born June 20, 1935, in Exira, Iowa and died December 20, 2018, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 83 years, and 6 months.
Jan was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1954. After graduating she moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she was employed for a short time before returning to Exira.
On February 12, 1956, she was united in marriage to Roland Alden Black at the Exira Lutheran Church. Six children were born to this union: Kim, Brett, Colette, Scott, Lanette, and DeEtte. They made their home east of Audubon where they farmed for 10 years. In 1966, they moved to Northglenn, Colorado where Jan raised their children until moving back to Exira, Iowa in 1973. Jan worked various jobs in the area until she retired.
Jan was an avid professional and college sports fan with her favorite professional team being the Denver Broncos. She enjoyed having coffee while visiting with her friends but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Alden Black; her children, Brett Black and DeEtte McCaw; her grandson, Andrew Petersen; her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Everett and Clarice Black; her infant sister, Joyce Johnson; and her brother, Charles Johnson.
Survivors include her children: Kim Black of Exira, Iowa, Colette Muhr of Exira, Iowa, Scott and wife Diane Black of Hamlin, Iowa, Lanette Black of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren: Candace and husband Justin Welch, Jess Black, Brooke Black, Misty Bell, Sam Muhr, Willy and wife Mykel Muhr, Spencer Black, Shelby Black, Jamie Madden, Annie Kluver, Braxton Haupert, Aspen O’Neal, and Dayton McCaw; 12 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Sandra and husband Ed Parsons, Jane and husband Lanny Kite, Jackie Pross and Ralph Cleveland, Cathy and husband Craig Schmidt, and John and wife Linda Johnson; her sister-in-law Marlene Johnson, Janet Williams, and Donna Bauger; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Pastor Steven Frock and Pastor Nancy Jensen officiating. Burial will be held in the Exira Cemetery. The casket bearers will be Willy Muhr, Spencer Black, John Johnson, Craig Schmidt, Ralph Cleveland, Lanny Kite, and Ed Parsons. The Kessler Funeral Home in Exira is in charge of the arrangements.
