Juanita Lou Hahn

Juanita Lou Hahn, the daughter of Roy P. and Lady Alice (Rollman) Carpenter, was born November 26, 1935, in Santa Cruz/Riverside, New Mexico and died June 20, 2014, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 6 months, and 24 days. Juanita was baptized and confirmed in the United Brethren Church. She attended the McCurdy Schools in Santa Cruz, New Mexico graduating with the High School Class of 1954. Juanita studied at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa for three years then graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1958 with a Bachelor Degree in Music. On January 25, 1957, she was united in marriage to Reverend Samuel J. Hahn at the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church in LeMars. Three children Eunice, Jonathan, and Deborah were born to this union. Being a Pastor’s wife she wore many hats in the numerous churches they served. She was a pianist/organist, choir director, and was involved in the many projects of the United Methodist Women. They served congregations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sharon Center north of Kalona, Iowa, Dumont, Iowa, Gowrie, Iowa, West Branch, Iowa, Hampton, Iowa and later moved to Iowa City, Iowa where they retired. In June of 2011 they moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa. Juanita was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. She was a member of P.E.O. and an active member of the United Methodist Women over the years. Juanita was multitalented. She became proficient at sewing, cooking, and colonial spinning on a spinning wheel. She enjoyed giving piano lessons and had played the piano for several musicals. She enjoyed antiquing and refinishing furniture. But one of her greatest loves was collecting hats. She has collected over 3,000 hats. Each one is meticulously cataloged and arranged by age, date, vintage, type, and hat maker. Juanita had given many programs on hats over the years and named her business Hysterical-Historical Hats. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers-in-law: Reverend Robert Patenaude and Arnold Ubben. She is survived by her husband Reverend Samuel J. Hahn of Audubon, Iowa; her children: Eunice and husband Philip Mennenoh of Audubon; Jonathan Hahn and Laurie Hile both of Castle Rock, Colorado; Deborah and husband Moncef Hadiji of Rockledge, Florida; her grandchildren: Benjamin and wife Lauren Hahn of Houston, Texas; Matthew Hahn of Golden, Colorado; Adam Hadiji of Orlando, Florida; her great grandson Carter Hahn of Houston; her brother and sisters: Paul and wife Faye Carpenter of Pascagoula, Mississippi; Rosella Patenaude of Hillsboro, Kansas; Ruth Ubben of Peoria, Illinois; her sister-in-law Mary and husband Reverend Armin Vogt of Lincoln, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Sharon Center Cemetery north of Kalona, Iowa at 4:30 P.M.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jud Stover on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa.
