Kenneth Roscoe Struble

Kenneth Roscoe Struble, the son of Earl and Bertha (Johnson) Struble, was born October 31, 1924, at his parents’ home in Hartley, Iowa and died April 22, 2017, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 5 months, and 21 days.
Kenny was baptized at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Exira, Iowa. He attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1942. He then farmed with his father and worked at Hans Jacobsen’s Produce. On August 24, 1942, he enlisted into the U.S. Marines. During his tour of duty he served as an Aviation Supply Man in the Pacific Theater. He was involved in the Okinawa Operation and received the Bronze Star for Valor under enemy fire. While in the service, Kenny developed his love for playing softball which he enjoyed for the rest of his life. He was honorably discharged November 30, 1945 and returned to Exira and farmed with his father.
On July 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joyce Slaven in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Robert, Roger, and Sharon. They continued to farm growing row crops and raising livestock. As the years went by Kenny along with farming worked at the Exira Creamery and later helped Bob Miller at the Exira Elevator. In the early 1970’s, Kenny purchased a feed store in Exira, Iowa. He operated K & J Feed and Seed until he sold the business and retired in 1992. During retirement he kept busy painting houses for many years. Kenny enjoyed their home then moved to the Exira Care Center in February of 2017.
Kenny was an active member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Exira then transferred his membership to the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa when the Federated Church closed. Kenny had taught Sunday school for many years. He was a member of Ballou Post # 332 American Legion Exira, Iowa and Dale Christensen Post # 4119 V.F.W. in Audubon, Iowa. Kenny always seemed busy. He was an avid walker, enjoyed playing golf, and playing cards, especially Pinochle. But most important to him was his family and providing for them.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his step-mother Lucille (Flathers) Struble; his brothers and sister Rosella and husband Carl Norby, Irvin and wife Norma Jean Struble, Dale and wife Betty Struble, Ron Struble; and his infant brother-in-law Robert Slaven.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Struble of Exira, Iowa; his children Robert and wife Carol Struble of Ames, Iowa, Roger Struble of Carroll, Iowa and Sharon and husband Pete Eivins of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandchildren Stephanie and husband Paul Beckett of West Des Moines, Iowa, Steve and wife Amy Struble of Clinton, Iowa, Wade Eivins and Heather Anderson both of Ankeny, Iowa, Crystal and husband Eric Sadler of Nevada, Iowa, Blair Struble of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Alissa and husband Cole Qualheim of Plano, Texas; his great grandchildren Sarah Beckett of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kate Struble and Abby Struble both of Clinton, Iowa, Lillian Sadler and Ginger Sadler both of Nevada, Iowa and Mason Eivins and Caden Eivins both of Ankeny, Iowa; his sisters Ruth and husband Frank DiMauro and Jeneane Baier all of Westminster, Colorado; his sister-in-law Linda Struble of Marietta, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening, April 26, 2017, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Nancy Jensen Thursday morning, April 27, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, Iowa. Inurnment will be at the Exira, Cemetery in Exira, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers will be Wade Eivins and Heather Anderson, Steve and Amy Struble, Stephanie and Paul Beckett, Crystal and Eric Sadler, Alissa and Cole Qualheim, and Blair Stuble.
