Laura Lou (Meaike) Fancher

Laura Lou Fancher, the daughter of Willard and Eleanor (Wanninger) Meaike, was born April 26, 1950, in Audubon, Iowa and died September 12, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 16 days.
Laura was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church near Gray, Iowa and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Gray consolidated schools in Gray, Iowa then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1968. Laura then was employed as a waitress in Oakland, Iowa where she met her future husband.
In the mid 1970’s she married Harold “Skip” Toepfer. One son was born to this union. They lived in Oakland for a short time then moved to Audubon. Harold was killed in a truck-train accident in 1980. After Skip’s death, Laura was employed at various jobs for several years. Laura then developed B & L Flag Car Service which she operated until she had to retire due to failing health. In February of 2015 she moved to the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, IA.
Laura was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She enjoyed travelling and visiting many different places. Laura also enjoyed watching T.V. especially the Discovery channel. Laura was an avid bowler and won many trophies over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her brothers Linn Meaike, Lenord Meaike, and Lloyd Meaike and her sister Louise Clark Tarwater.
Survivors include her son Scott Toepfer of Red Oak, Iowa; her grandchildren Cheyenne Toepfer, Dakota Toepfer, and Chae Malone all of Audubon, Iowa; her brothers and sisters Linda and husband Jerry Petersen of Audubon, Iowa, Larry Meaike of Coventry, Connecticut, LaVonne and husband Jim Campbell of Audubon, Iowa, Lonnie and wife Kim Meaike of Manilla, Iowa, Lyle and wife Traci Meaike of Beemer, Nebraska, and Lance and wife Laurie Meaike of Audubon, Iowa; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Jeanne Meaike of Audubon, Iowa, Bill Tarwater of Guin, Alabama, and Penny and husband Randy LaFoy of Audubon, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholtz on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Chae Malone, Dakota Toepfer, and Cheyenne Toepfer. The casket bearers will be Tyler Meaike, Tarron Meaike, Jarrett Meaike, Dustin Meaike, Mark Mc Cool and Coby Bonney. The family will meet with friends Friday evening, September 16, 2016, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
