Leland Roy Weber, the son of William and Freda (Jensen) Weber, was born November 6, 1931, at his parents’ home in Shelby County and died August 25, 2018, at the age of 86 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
Leland was baptized as an adult at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. He attended rural school in western Audubon County then graduated from the Audubon High School with the High School Class of 1950. Leland then helped on the family farm. On September 3, 1952, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served with the Army of Occupation in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 11, 1954, and returned to the area to farm.
On March 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Janet Kay at the Congregational Church in Lewis, Iowa. They were blessed with five children Nanette, Randy, Kent, Craig, and Bradley. They farmed in Audubon County, first near Hamlin, Iowa then Viola, Iowa until retirement. They moved to Lake Panarama, but Leland continued to be involved with the farm and family. Leland was an airplane pilot and flew to many locations across the country to buy cattle and attend farm shows.
Leland was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon. He served on the Audubon School Board for many years. Leland was a member of the Dale Christensen Post No. 4119 V.F.W., the Audubon Veritas Lodge #392 A.F. and A.M., and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He enjoyed flying, playing golf, cribbage, and building projects in his shop. But most of all he enjoyed entertaining his family, especially the grandchildren, at their lake home.
Preceding him in death was his son and family Randy and Amy Weber and their son Tyler; his parents; William and Freda Weber; his brother and sisters Norma and husband Roland Adams, George Weber, and Margie and husband LeRoy Johansen; and his sister-in-law Charlotte Weber.
Survivors include his wife Janet Weber of Panora, Iowa; his children Nanette and husband Lloyd Schmidt of Johnston, Iowa, Kent and wife Shirley Weber of Marne, Iowa, Craig and wife Carol Weber of Elk Horn, Iowa, and Bradley and wife Ronda Weber of Audubon, Iowa; his grandchildren Rachel Weber and special friend Kyle Lindberg of Harlan, Iowa, Samuel and wife Jessica Weber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Joshua Weber of Kansas City, Missouri, April Weber and Geena Weber both of Ames, Iowa, Kellie and husband Justin McMurrin of Ryan, Iowa, Ethan Ryan of Treynor, Iowa and Sadie Ryan of Carroll, Iowa; his great grandchildren Zach Blum and Alex Blum both of Harlan, Iowa, and Jenni Weber and Zoey Weber both of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his brother Dean Weber of Audubon, Iowa; his sister-in-law Phyllis Pelzer of Atlantic, Iowa, Karen Arsiaga of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Irma Weber of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening, August 29, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Benjamin Unseth on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Mike Olsen, Jeff Edwards, Charles Van Meter, Dennis Weber, Dennis Carter, and Scott Hansen.
