Lenore LaFoy, the daughter of Willard and Lula (Martin), Oakley, was born September 7, 1930, in Audubon, Iowa and died May 20, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
Lenore was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon and later confirmed on April 25, 1943. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1948. She studied at the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and received her Teaching Certification on May 20, 1950. Later she completed her Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Lenore taught in Manning for a short time.
On March 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Russell Stiles at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Two children Michael and Mary Jo were born to this union. Lenore was a homemaker caring for her family before resuming her teaching career in 1957. She was employed as the Kindergarten Teacher in the Audubon Community School district. In November of 1964 Russell died.
On July 24, 1966, she married Forrest “Pap” LaFoy, Jr. at the Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They blended their families adding Pap’s children Randy, Donna and Denise. Lenore continued teaching Kindergarten until she retired in 1992. Lenore helped care for her husband who had received a heart transplant on December 2, 1991, and later a kidney transplant in 2000. They enjoyed their home then moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in April of 2009. “Pap” died May 21, 2009 and Lenore continued to reside at the Friendship Home.
Lenore was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She served as a Deacon and an Elder and regularly participated in the women’s circles. Lenore was an active member of the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed going to Blackhawk Lake and later Blue Lake KOA in Onawa, Iowa and trying her luck at fishing. Lenore and “Pap” enjoyed family vacations traveling around the country and also enjoyed the excitement of the horse races at Aksarben and other regional tracks. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husbands Russell Stiles and Forrest “Pap” LaFoy, Jr.; her parents; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard Campbell, Dean Cramer, Donna Oakley, Chuck and wife Gloria LaFoy, Sam and wife Frances LaFoy, and Ardyth and Emery Bertelsen. Survivors include; her children: Michael and Deb Stiles of Sioux City, IA; Mary Jo and Michael Krauel; Randy and Penny LaFoy, all of Audubon; Donna and Ron Whitaker of Kansas City, MO; Denise England of Urbandale, IA; her grandchildren: Kristin (Stiles) and Brad Broberg of Waukee, IA; Amy (Stiles) and Dan McEntaffer of Clive, IA; Clint and Becky Stiles of Grimes, IA; McKenzie Krauel of Audubon; Jeanette LaFoy of North Carolina; Brandi LaFoy of Audubon; Ashley and Joe Hartl of Audubon; Stephanie and Steve Snyder of Manning, IA; Brandon LaFoy of Des Moines, IA; Zach and Keri Whitaker of Kansas City, MO; Kyle and Kim Whitaker of Kearney, MO; Adam Whitaker of Clinton, MO; Luke and Lesley England of Saratoga Springs, NY; Ben and Jaime England of Manning, IA; 26 great-grandchildren: her sisters Loretta Campbell, of Audubon; Donna Cramer of Iowa City, IA; her brother Chuck Oakley of Phoenix, AZ; her brother-in-law: T.R. Andersen, Jr. of Audubon; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Roger Claxton on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters Kristin Broberg, Amy McEntaffer, McKenzie Krauel, Jeanette LaFoy, Natalie LaFoy, Brandi LaFoy, Ashley Hartl, and Stephanie Snyder. The casket bearers will be her grandsons Zach Whitaker, Kyle Whitaker, Luke England, Clint Stiles, Adam Whitaker, Ben England, and Brandon LaFoy. The family will meet with friends on Monday evening, May 23, 2016, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Memorials for Lenore will be shared with the Audubon Community Schools and the Alzheimer’s Association.
