Lloyd Dale Kelly, the son of Daniel and Marie (Kuntzweiler) Kelly, was born April 26, 1940, at his parents’ home north of Audubon, Iowa and died November 27, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of 74 years, 7 months, and 1 day.
Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church North of Audubon on October 21, 1959. He attended Audubon Community Schools. Lloyd helped operate the family farm and also worked at the canning factory in Audubon.
On October 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Donna Borkowski at Trinity Lutheran Church north of Audubon. Lloyd continued farming and worked for John Sunberg digging wells. In 1963 Lloyd and Donna purchased the Hi Way Café which they operated for a short time. They sold the café and purchased at farm southeast of Audubon where they grew row crops and raised livestock. He sold the livestock and Lloyd and his father started Kelly Pump Company. They also sold Westinghouse appliances in their store in Audubon. Lloyd started a grave digging business and dug graves in all of Audubon County and several cemeteries in Guthrie County. During this time he also helped at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. He served as the sexton for Maple Grove Cemetery and Arlington Heights Cemetery for many years. In 1983 they purchased the Uptown Car Wash and later in 1988 Kelly’s Car Wash in Exira. In 1991 Lloyd purchased the Egyptian Vault Company in Lake View, Iowa which he and his son Randy have continued to operate.
Lloyd has been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1965. He served as a Deputy Sheriff Ranger for over 25 years. He was a member of the Audubon Lions Club and a member of the Audubon Historical Society.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daniel Kelly Jr., his father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Hilda Borkowski, his sisters-in-law and brothers–in-law Loretta Rustvold, Marsha Borkowski, Eldon Borkowski, and James Haskins
Survivors include his wife Donna Kelly of Audubon, Iowa, his children Sheryl Kelly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sharon and husband Ed Knapp, Polk City , Iowa, and Randy and wife Megan Kelly, Audubon, Iowa; his son-in-law Stephen Buol of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his grandchildren Ashley Buol and Joshua Buol both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Amanda Hupp of Ankeny, Iowa, Allison Hupp and Emalee Knapp both of Polk City, Iowa; his brother Jerry and wife Ardell Kelly of Audubon, Iowa and sister Doris and husband Charles Rattenborg of Springfield, Missouri; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marlys Borkowski, James Borkowski, Dale and wife Delyte Borkowski and Harold Rustvold all of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
