Mark Dana Frederiksen

Mark Dana Frederiksen, the son of Darrell and Lenore (Lange) Frederiksen, was born June 22, 1955, in Atlantic, Iowa and died October 2, 2015, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 60 years, 3 months, and 10 days.
Mark was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. He attended Elk Horn Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1973.
On August 22, 1973, he was united in marriage to Pat McLaughlin at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, Iowa. Two daughters Jennifer and Amy were born to this union. During his working life Mark managed several different restaurants in various communities, was a service manager for an auto dealership, and a computer programmer for several years until he had to retire due to his failing health.
Mark enjoyed anything mechanical. He had the ability to fix or restore just about anything. If it puked oil and smelled like gas he liked it and found it to be a treasure. One of his treasured projects was building his own backhoe from scrap metal and taking it to the Iowa State Fair where he won second place for his efforts. He enjoyed spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks, the Iowa State Fair, car shows, and swap meets. Everything he purchased may have seemed like junk but could someday become a collector’s item.
He was always singing to Pat and making up his own lyrics to make others laugh. He enjoyed time with his grandkids, working in his shop, and as he called it “passing on his wisdom” to his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents Adolph Lange, Emory and Edna Fredrickson and Chris and Anna Frederiksen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Russell and Dorothy McLaughlin.
Survivors include his wife Pat Frederiksen of Ashland, Nebraska; his daughters Jennifer and husband George Smith,III and Amy Valadez all of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren Jayson and Jacob Smith and Jayde and Jaxyn Valadez all of Omaha, Nebraska; his parents Darrell and Lenore Frederiksen of Elk Horn, Iowa; his brother Paul Frederiksen of Walnut, Iowa; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Holly Miller, Kirk and wife Karen McLaughlin all of Lake of the Ozarks, Verna and husband Tom Huiskamp of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laury and husband Kevin Cusick of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Jamie and Joel David of Glidden, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Menter on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa.
