Marlene Marie Potter

Marlene Marie Potter, the daughter of Leo Albert and Clara Pearl (Burtcheard) Nolte, was born June 1, 1935, in rural Cass County near Elliott, Iowa and died June 7, 2017, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years and 6 days.
Marlene was a baptized Christian. She attended rural Cass County schools then graduated from the Wiota High School with the Class of 1952. Marlene then was a caregiver primarily for children and also an elderly woman.
On June 29, 1957, she was untied in marriage to Alfred Minter Potter at the Presbyterian minister’s home in Atlantic, Iowa. They were blessed with one son Eugene Leroy. They lived in the Omaha-Council Bluffs area for a short time before moving to Chicago, Illinois. Marlene was employed as a factory worker where they manufactured airplane parts for the B-52 Bombers. During their working years they lived in Des Plaines, Illinois and McHenry, Illinois. In 1979 they moved o Woodstock, Illinois. In each of these locations, Marlene continued to work in the factories. Later they moved to Harvard, Illinois and Marlene was employed as a receptionist in a Chiropractic Clinic until she retired. In 2004 they returned to Iowa and lived for a brief time in Atlantic, Iowa before finally settling in Audubon, Iowa in November of 2006.
During retirement Marlene helped Alfred with his woodworking projects which included making rocking horses, truck banks, and many other items. She enjoyed reading and watching TV. Marlene was kind and her home was always open and accepting to all her family and friends. Alfred died August 14, 2008. Marlene lived in her home then recently moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa for rehabilitation.
Preceding her in death was her husband Alfred Potter, her son Eugene Potter; her parents; her sister Judy Swope; and her brother Don and wife Shirley Nolte.
Survivors include her adopted daughter Debra Lightfoot of Audubon, Iowa; her sister Doris and husband Bob Evans of Elliott, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday morning, June 10, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ Fellowship Room in Atlantic, Iowa. Honoring her wishes, Marlene, was cremated and will be placed in a companion urn with her husband Alfred.
