Mary Ann Shima

Mary Ann Shima, the daughter of Leo Mark and Elsie Viola (Shumaker) Cornick, was born June 17, 1937, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and died August 22, 2015, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 5 days.
Ann was baptized and confirmed at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant. She attended Mount Pleasant community schools graduating with the High School Class of 1955. Ann was employed as an operator for the Mount Pleasant Telephone Company. Later she worked as a clerk in several clothing stores.
On August 22, 1959, she was united in marriage to William J. Shima at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant. Four children Tony, Laura, Joe, and Jim were born to this union. They moved to Orient, Iowa where Bill taught school and Ann was a home maker. In the early 1960’s they moved to Audubon, Iowa. Ann was a home maker while their children were growing up then operated a day care in her home until she retired the first part of 2015.
Ann was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. She had served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and was an Avon representative for 32 years. Ann enjoyed her flowers, fashion, and decorating her home. She enjoyed sports especially watching her children in the many sports they participated in. Ann loved each and every one of her grandchildren as well as the many other children she cared for.
Ann was preceded in death by her son Tony Shima; her parents; and her sister-in-law Betty (Shima) Rich.
Survivors include her husband William J. Shima of Audubon, Iowa; her children Laura and husband Rich Pross of Audubon, Iowa, Joe and wife Shelly Shima of Madera, California, and Jim and wife Lisa Shima of Storm Lake, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Sandy Shima of San Clemente, California; her grandchildren Cody Pross of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sharlotte Shima and Lane Shima both of Madera, California, Christopher Shima and Carter Shima both of Storm Lake, Iowa, Ashley and husband Travis Dillinger of Polk City, Iowa, and Kelsey Shima of San Clemente, California; her great grandchildren Tessa and Amelia Dillinger both of Polk City, Iowa; her brother Mike and wife Deloris Cornick of Glenwood, Iowa; her sisters Nancy and husband Frank Bell of Mission, Texas, and Sally and husband Rodger Bell of Roseburg, Oregon; her brother-in-law Ed Rich of Lockridge, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted by Father Emmanuel Agwuoke C.S.Sp. on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Rich Pross, Jerry Karns, Jeremy Karns, Don Fedderson, Don Gibson, and Bob Clark. The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening August 26, 2015, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
