Mary Nadine Stewart

Mary Nadine Stewart, the daughter of Jerry and Mabel Zimmerman Hopkins was born June 18, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and died December 8, 2011, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 20 days. Mary was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She attended Mount Mercy High School in Cedar Rapids graduating with the High School Class of 1947. Following graduation she was employed at a local dime store and Fanny Farmers Candy Store in Cedar Rapids. On February 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Loren Keith Stewart at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. One daughter Donna was born to this union. They returned to operate Loren’s grandmother’s farm near Blairstown, Iowa. They later purchased more land and raised livestock and grew row crops. Mary was raised in the city and knew nothing about farming. But she learned to garden, became a seamstress and became a farm wife helping Loren operate the farm. They retired in 1983 and moved into Blairstown. In 2000, they moved to Audubon, Iowa to be near their daughter and her family. Loren died April 7, 2009. Mary was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was on the Library Board in Blairstown. She was member of the Audubon County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Audubon Red Hats. Mary enjoyed socializing and having coffee with her friends. She belonged to several card clubs and enjoyed china painting. She was an avid reader and an excellent seamstress. But above all Mary enjoyed spending time with her family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Loren K. Stewart; her grandson Jarrod Paulsen; her parents; her sister Gloria Klug; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Donald Stewart, Merle Stewart, Winnifred Stewart and Charles Kubichek. Survivors include her daughter: Donna and husband Paul Paulsen of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jessica and husband Ryan Fincel of Atlantic, Iowa; Jackie and husband Nick Cockrum; Josh Paulsen all of West Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Heather Fincel and Harley Fincel both of Atlantic; MacKenzi Cockrum and Dakota Cockrum both of West Des Moines; her brother: Jim and wife Lorrie Hopkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harold Klug of Blairstown, Iowa; Gerald Stewart of Belle Plain, Iowa; Evelyn Kubichek of Blairstown; Ann Stewart of Alabama; her special niece: Bethany Kirton of Montezuma, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Saturday morning at 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon.

Service:
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 11:00 A.M at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
