Maxine Lorraine Anderson

Maxine Lorraine Anderson, the daughter of Ralph and Emma Schwab McCuen, was born May 17, 1920, at her parents home in Cameron Township, near Ross, Iowa and died October 26, 2009, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 9 days.
Maxine was baptized as an adult at the First Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural schools in Audubon County. She helped her brothers and sisters and then worked at the egg plant in Manning, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Guy Anderson on December 29, 1944 at the First Christian Church by Pastor Neville in Exira, Iowa. They lived in Exira for a short time, then moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado. Maxine cleaned houses and was employed in a grocery store. They returned to Iowa and lived in Logan, Iowa and Guthrie Center, Iowa. In 1950 they returned to Rocky Ford and Maxine was employed as a switchboard operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She started as an operator, then moved into the office where she was in charge of collections and later other responsibilities. Maxine retired in 1981 after working for the Telephone Company for 31 years. She then helped care for Guy who was experiencing health problems. Guy died in 1982. Maxine lived in Rocky Ford until 1994 when she moved to Atlantic, Iowa. She enjoyed her home, then in April of 2002 she moved to the Heritage House in Atlantic.
Maxine had been an active member of the First Christian Church in Rocky Ford. She was a member of the Golden Tones Choir which entertained in area nursing homes. She was a member of the AARP and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Maxine was an accomplished artist and enjoyed many social activities.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her step-son Bill Anderson; her parents; her brother-in-law Bernard Enright; her brothers and sisters: Ross McCuen; Alsace and Clifford Madsen; Helen and Frank Northup; Ray and Hazel McCuen; Glen and Arlene McCuen; her nephews: Don Jensen; Gene Rushing; Kent Northup and Gene Carter.
Survivors include her sister Phyllis Enright of Atlantic, IA; her step-children: Laurena and Leonard Herzberg of Las Vegas, NV; Leona and Bob Gourd and Genevive Robertson, all of Kansas City, KS; Virgil and Sylvia Anderson of Corning, IA; her step-daughter-in-law Margaret Anderson of Arizona; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will bein the Valley View-Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford, Colorado.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Leon Hodges on Friday, October 29, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, IA.
