Melissa "Mitzi" Lou Lafoy

Melissa “Mitzi” Lou LaFoy, the eldest child of Earnest LaVerne and Norma Nadine (Krogh) Madsen, was born June 15, 1954, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll, Iowa and died February 5, 2016 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 61 years, 7 months, and 20 days.
Melissa was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1972.
On June 16, 1973, she was united in marriage to David Eugene LaFoy at the Exira Lutheran church in Exira, Iowa. They were blessed with one daughter Krystal Charnel. Melissa worked in the printing industry from her first job to her last. This included Sklenar Publishing, the Atlantic News Telegraph, Jumbo Jack’s Cook Books –Audubon County Newspapers and Audubon Media Corporation.
Melissa loved spending time with her family, especially her husband, daughter and son-in-law, and her two precious granddaughters. She also enjoyed the loving and supportive relationship she had with her sisters and brothers.
Preceding her in death were her parents Earnest and Norma Nadine Madsen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Vernon “Sam” and Frances (Thygesen) LaFoy; and her brother-in-law Douglas LaFoy.
Survivors include her husband David LaFoy of Hamlin, Iowa; her daughter Krystal and husband Michael Albertsen and her granddaughters Gracye Cree and Sienna Brynn Albertsen all of Audubon, Iowa; her brothers and sisters Lori (Mel) Lawrenson of Omaha. Nebraska, Jeff (Jean) Madsen, Jodi (Bill) Haley, Scott Madsen, Natalie (Gary) Smouse all of Exira, Iowa, nieces, nephews, Amber and Scott Jensen and Olivia and Evan of Atlantic, Iowa Nicholas Haley, Hannah Jessen, Jacob Smouse, and Erin Smouse, and Mark Phippen and their children Lauren, Grant, and Taylor all of Exira, Iowa; her sister-in-law Cindi and Gary Olson of Omaha, Nebraska and their family, Shanna and family, Jamie and Eric White, Coco and Chloe and Cody Olson all of Omaha, Nebraska; her brother-in-law Dennis and Jobeth LaFoy of Audubon, Iowa and their family Nikki and Cody Pomeroy and Kendall all of Coon Rapids, and Christian LaFoy of Audubon, Iowa; her step-nieces and step-nephews and their families Chris Schultes family of Audubon, Iowa, Keith Schultes family of Iowa City, Iowa, Cory Schultes family of Johnston, Iowa, Craig Schultes family of Ozark, Arkansas, Kyle Nelson family of Exira, Iowa and Kelli Nelson of Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Hamlin Lutheran Cemetery east of Hamlin, Iowa. The Honorary casket bearers will be Carolyn Bruun, Marge Griffith, Rhonda Rattenborg, Meredith Gregersen, Alice Lauridsen, and Linda Tibben. The casket bearers will be Jake Smouse, Nick Haley, Gary Olson, Mike Albertsen, Mark Phippen, and Scott Jensen. The family will meet with friends on Monday evening, February 8, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
