Milford "Mel" Arno Hagen

June 1, 1924 — May 25, 2019

Milford “Mel” Arno Hagen the son of Milford D. and Rhea (Conklin) Hagen, was born June 1, 1924, in St. Paul, Minnesota and entered into rest on May 25, 2019, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 11 Months, and 24 days.
Mel was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Springfield, Minnesota. He attended the Springfield Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1942.
On October 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Efstathia “Esta” Helen Jane Tgiros in Charles City, Iowa. They blended their families together and were blessed with one daughter Pota. Mel was employed at the local Cleaners until the business was destroyed by a tornado in 1969. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa and Mell was employed at Crabtree Printing as a typesetter for many years until he retired.
During retirement Mel became an avid cyclist, constructed and flew model airplanes, and built a city for his scale model train set. He enjoyed gardening especially growing orchids and roses. Mel was also a die-hard Minnesota Vikings Fan. Mel was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. He served as an usher and spent many hours reading his Bible. He was an accomplished woodworker and made many beautiful items including a grandfather clock. Mel had a dry sense of humor, had a kind smile and always had a twinkle in his eyes.
Preceding him in death was his wife Efstathia “Esta” H. J. Hagen; his granddaughter Amanda Bauer; his step-daughter Elaine and husband Verel Ackles; his parents; his brother Roy Hagen; his sister Mary DeWall; and his son-in-law Marv Kelsey.
Survivors include his son Mark and wife Karen Hagan of Vancouver, Washington; his beloved daughter Pota of Atlantic, Iowa; Her children Jessica and husband Paul Rohrer and their children Tommy and Ella all of Kansas City, Kansas, Alexandrhea Bauer and her children Morrison, Izziah, and Iyla all of Atlantic, Iowa Christian Cook and Myah Gade both of Atlantic, Iowa; his step children Alice Kelsey of Hull City, South Dakota, James Timothy Plympton of Wichita, Kansas; his step grandchildren Athia Duetlinger and Ronnie Alcott both of South Dakota, and Jimmy Plympton of Wichita, Kansas,
A private family funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Daryl Tompkins at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. The casket bearers will be Pota, Alexandrhea Bauer, Christian Cook, Myah Gade, and Frank Derby.
