Patrick John Mcgovern

Patrick John McGovern, the son of John and Catherine (Crawley) McGovern, was born June 3, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa and completed his earthly journey on Saturday, June 17, 2017, in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 85 years and 14 days.
Patrick attended the Waterloo Community schools graduating from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1950. On January 9, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his tour of duty he served mostly stateside. On December 16, 1953, he was honorably discharged. Patrick attended the University of Iowa where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
On June 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary McCall at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Exira, Iowa. They were blessed with three children Hugh, Melissa, and Patrick. They lived in Newton, Iowa and West Des Moines where Patrick was involved in the insurance and real estate industry. In 1985 they moved to Austin, Texas. He continued to work in the insurance and real estate. For the past twenty-five years he was the owner of Capital Area Investments in Austin, Texas until he retired.
Patrick was a member of the Rotary and many other organizations. But most important, was that he remained an avid Hawkeye fan for the remainder of his life.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Mary McGovern of Austin, Texas; his children Hugh and wife Anita McGovern, Melissa and husband Fred Prill, and Patrick McGovern; his five grandchildren Sara Johnson, Nicole McGovern, Josh McGovern, Joe McGovern, and Olivia Prill; his four great grandsons Aiden, Aaron, Ethan, and Adam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Clinton Francisco on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 1:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.
