Paul Leroy Wahlert

Paul Leroy Wahlert, the son of Glenn and Florence Onken Wahlert was born October 26, 1935 at his parent’s home in Greeley Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died June 26, 2011 at the Exira Care Center after a short battle with cancer at the age 75 years, 8 months and 0 days. Paul attended rural school in Greeley Township and then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1954. He then was employed for Betts and Beers Construction for a few years and then began working for Audubon County Secondary Roads Department as a mechanic and equipment operator for 41 years. On October 17, 1969 he was united in marriage to Delores Irene Crees at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. Three children: Paula, Tim and Karla were born to this union. Paul continued to work for the county of Audubon until he retired in October of 1998. After retirement Paul worked some part time jobs at Garst Seed in Coon Rapids, Iowa, Variety Distributors in Harlan, Iowa, Agri-Alliance in Audubon and farming for Steve Hocamp. Paul enjoyed their home then moved to the Exira Care Center on June 13, 2011. Paul was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Exira Jaycees. He enjoyed spending time in Minnesota and especially enjoyed going fishing but most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; his infant twin brothers Jay and Ray; his sister Ruby Larsen; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Norma Taggart, Ethel and Abe Daggett, Jackie and Danny Keasey, Allen Oakley, Sr., Kenny Harter, Ollie Huitt, Chet Bartelt; his nephews and niece: Doug Larsen, Scott Larsen, Allen Oakley, Jr., and Deb Lempke. Survivors include his wife of 41 years Delores Wahlert of Exira, Iowa; his children: Paula and husband Tom Bintner of Ankeny, Iowa; Tim Wahlert and fiancé Chris Peterson; Karla and husband Ashley Bieker all of Exira; his grandchildren: Emily Bintner and Brianna Bintner both of Ankeny, Hailey Bieker, Ellie Wahlert, Breanna Peterson, Damian Peterson and Calin Peterson all of Exira; his sisters: Betty Paulsen and Mildred and husband Ralph Wedemeyer all of Exira; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jim Larsen of Anita, Iowa; Bill Taggart of Manning, Iowa; Mary Huitt of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Shirley Keasey of Scranton, Iowa; Barb Harter of Jefferson, Iowa; Ruby and husband Merle Blake; Geneva and husband Lloyd Oakley; Janice Oakley and Lois and husband Larry Thygesen all of Audubon; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock and Vicar Rory Phillips on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock and Vicar Rory Phillips on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira.
