Phyllis Marie (Roth) Larsen

Phyllis Marie Larsen, one of eleven children of John Jr. and Ida (Winters) Roth, was born May 22, 1929, in Audubon, Iowa and died August 27, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 5 days.
Phyllis was baptized and received her First Holy Communion at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Audubon Community Schools and High School through the 10th grade. She then worked for several families, later sorted and detassled corn. Phyllis was employed at a café in Cherokee, Iowa. During the weekends she would ride the bus back and forth to Audubon. She returned to Audubon and worked in the canning factory where she was able to save enough money to buy her first car for $35.00.
On February 10, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harry D. Larsen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Audubon, Iowa. Three children Thomas, Angela and Rhonda were born to this union. During the early years of their marriage she cleaned houses and later on cleaned Bybee’s Tavern and the Hamburger Shop. She was a homemaker for many years taking care of Harry and the children. Phyllis was a very good cook and always had a hot meal on the table. Phyllis enjoyed her home for many years then moved the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa in 2013.
Phyllis was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. Phyllis loved to dance and when they were first married, Phyllis and Harry would go to the Starline Ballroom in Carroll, the VFW Club, the T-Bone Club and the Armory to dance. She enjoyed sitting on the porch at night. Her favorite pet was Cody and he loved to follow the mail man. Phyllis liked to drive her car to the many stores and enjoyed watching her favorite TV show “Walker, Texas Ranger". But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her great great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Harry; was her daughter Rhonda Goetz; her parents; her brothers and sisters an infant brother Franklin Roth, William P. and wife Dorothy Roth, Kenneth Roth, Kathleen Stetzel, Josephine Nelson, Shirley and husband Thomas Cozine, Jean Roth, Charles Roth; and her sister-in-law Joyce Roth.
Survivors include her children, her son; Tom Larsen of Atlantic, Iowa and her daughter Angie and husband Larry Petersen of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren, Jacob and wife Tisha Larsen of Winston, Oregon, Rhea Larsen and fiancé Ty Jordan of Lyman, Iowa, Amberly Peterson and fiancé Jeff Hawkins of Lake City, Iowa, Adam Petersen of Atlantic, Iowa, Lachelle Petersen of Walnut, Iowa, Lucas Petersen and special friend Taylor Kobberdahl of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Amelia Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Isaiah Goetz of Carroll, Iowa; her 14 great grandchildren, Tyler Larsen and Hannah Larsen, Kayleb Schechinger, Anthony Peterson, Andrew Peterson, Alec Hawkins and Lilly Hawkins, Aiden Peterson and Andrew Peterson, Jacob Nelson, Grace Nelson, Tristen Petersen, Halo Goetz, and Calix Goetz; her great great granddaughter Jersey Peterson; her brothers Keith Roth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Joe and wife Mary Lou Roth of Panora, Iowa; her sisters-in-law Helen Roth of Marion, Iowa and Kathryn Roth of Waukee, Iowa; her best friend Beatrice Wealch of the Friendship Home; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be conducted by Reverend Anthony Mathew on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Steve Stetzel, Mike Roth, Jim Roth, Koby Stetzel, Roger Merk, and Robert Erickson. The family will meet friends Tuesday evening, August 30, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral in Audubon, Iowa,
