Reta Iona Hansen

September 8, 1925 — June 21, 2009

Reta Iona Hansen, the daughter of Martin N. and Minnie Thygesen Clemsen, was born September 8, 1925, at her parents home in Sharon Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died June 21, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
Reta was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. She attended rural school in Sharon Township, then helped on the family farm.
On January 1, 1944, she was united in marriage to Kennard S. Hansen at Bethany Lutheran Church. Five children Dennis, Patricia, Jeffrey, Paul and Richard were born to this union. Kennard was in the Air Force and was stationed in California so they moved to southern California. Kennard was honorably discharged on November 27, 1945 and they returned to Audubon. Reta was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her husband and children. In 1949 she contracted Polio and relied on a wheelchair the rest of her life. Kennard died August 29, 1985. Reta took care of her home, then moved to the Friendship Home in 2005. Reta was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon. She enjoyed handwork and sewing.
Preceding her in death were her husband Kennard S. Hansen; her infant son Paul Hansen; her parents; her sister Margaret Clemsen and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Rhoda and Emmert Schmidt.
Survivors include her children: Dennis and Julie Hansen of Audubon, IA; Patricia and Joe Latham of Belton, TX; Jeffrey Hansen of Branson, MO; Richard and Kim Hansen of Moorpark, CA; her grandchildren: Cynthia Horning and friend Allen Jensen of Red Oak, IA; Eric and Tracy Cleckler of Katy, TX; Christiana and Chris Kelly of Santa Rosa, CA; Michael Hansen of California; Kristine Latham and Carolyn Latham, both of Belton,TX; her great-grandchildren: Katherine Cleckler; Cassie Cleckler and Nicole Cleckler, all of Katy, TX; her niece Glenda Gardner; of Aurora, CO; her nephew James Schmidt of Las Vegas, NV; her longtime friend Karen Elmquist of Audubon; other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Wednesday evening at 7:00 at Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
