Ricky Dee Barker

Ricky Dee Barker, the son of Ronald and Rosetta Akes Barker, was born April 26, 1959, in Leon, Iowa and died September 12, 2013, from injuries in a truck accident in Leon County near Buffalo City, Texas at the age of 54 years, 4 months, and 16 days. Ricky attended the Methodist Church in Leon. As a child Ricky and the family moved to Coon Rapids, Iowa. He attended Coon Rapids Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1977. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and then was discharged after a short time due to an injury. Ricky then was employed by Garst Company. Ricky also was employed by Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. He was married and one daughter, BarbaraRose was born into this union. Ricky received his CDL and then started driving semi-trucks. He began driving locally for Frank Cretsinger and then became an over-the-road trucker. Ricky hauled all types of freight for several different companies never passing up a chance to drive to Texas. Besides spending time with his daughter and her family, his passion was on the road driving truck. He also had a longing for the state of Texas which he developed many years ago. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to country music, and caring for his parents. Preceding him in death is his paternal grandparents Ross and Margaret Barker; his maternal grandparents Harley and Edna Mills Akes; his aunt Betty Wilcox; his niece Michele Schirck; and his cousin Jimmy Barker. Survivors include: his daughter BarbaraRose Barker and companion Cory Thompson both of Dexter, Iowa; his grandson Zackery Bush of Dexter, Iowa and companion Kayla Girard of Glidden, Iowa; his granddaughters Catlin and Ashlyn Bush of Dexter, Iowa; his parents Ronald and Rosetta Barker of Coon Rapids, Iowa; his brothers and sister: Rebecca and husband Darrell Bradt and family of Missouri; Randy Barker and Dee Dee Venteicher and family of Carroll, Iowa; Robert and wife Cindy Barker of Jolly, Iowa; his step-son Nathan Johansen of Templeton, Iowa; his longtime friends: Juanita Kurth and family of Audubon, Iowa: Rick and Janet Gute and family of Carroll, Iowa: his aunts, uncles, other relatives, and special friends which considered him a 'special Father' figure.

Cemetery:
The family will have a private disposition of the cremains at a later date.

Service:
Celebration of life memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Lynn Gunderson on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at 4:00P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids, Iowa.
