Royce Delmer Nichols

Royce Delmer Nichols, the son of Ralph D. and Susie (Wheatley) Nichols, was born June 22, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa and died March 13, 2016, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
Royce was baptized and confirmed on March 28, 1956 at the Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa. He attended Anita Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1962. Following High School Royce was employed at Sears and at the Adair Feed and Grain. He then worked as a farm hand for several families in the Guthrie County area. Royce moved to the Audubon area and was employed at Lansman’s Seed and delivered Wayne Feed for several years then worked at DeBoth’s Greenhouse. This is where he developed his love for gardening which continued for the rest of his life. Later he worked as a farm hand for Earl and Dennis Olesen. During retirement Royce had a large vegetable garden and sold his produce to his many customers. Royce sold his acreage and moved into Audubon, Iowa and later moved to the Friendship Home in September of 2015.
Royce enjoyed hunting and fishing and always enjoyed a game of marbles. He loved to listen to country music and watching NASCAR and R.F.D.TV. He liked to do word search puzzles and write to his many pen pals.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents and special friend Carol Malloy.
Survivors include his children Connie Nichols and family of Carter Lake, Iowa, Rodney and wife Jessica Nichols and family of Gray, Iowa, Robert and wife Stacy Lebeck and family of Story City, Iowa, Curt and wife Tammy Nichols and family of Boone, Iowa, Michelle and husband Justin Stream and family of Jefferson, Iowa; his brother Gary and wife Carol Nichols of Peoria, Arizona; his special friends Randy and Penny LaFoy of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Friday, March 25, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.
