Rudolph "Rudy" Anton Anthofer, Jr.

March 7, 1947 — January 22, 2019

Rudolph “Rudy” Anton Anthofer, the son of Rudolph Louis and Norma Kay (Liewer) Anthofer, was born March 7, 1947, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa and died January 22, 2019, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of 71, years, 10 months, and 15 days.
Rudy was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa. He attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Dedham then graduated from the Kuemper High School with the Class of 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and helped operate the family farm.
On November 25, 1971, he was united in marriage to Donna Wright at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham, Iowa. They were blessed with four children Mike Steve, Mary, and Dave. They moved to rural Audubon County where Rudy farmed with his father for several years and then farmed on his own. He grew row crops and farrowed hogs until 2001. Since then he has been employed by Handlos Farms.
Rudy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Rudy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. One of the highlights of the past year was taking his grandsons fishing. He enjoyed camping and looking at boats and guns. Rudy always had a smile on his face and a cup of coffee in his hand or sitting near him.
Preceding him in death was his son David Anthofer; his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Marvin and Mary Wright; his sister-in-law Margaret Strabala; and brother-in-law Dale Wright.
Survivors include his wife Donna Anthofer of Audubon, Iowa; his children Mike and wife Kindra Anthofer of Exira, Iowa, Steve and wife Christy Anthofer of Carroll, Iowa, and Mary and husband Zach Brandt of Prescott, Iowa; his grandchildren Haillie and husband Dustin Bruch of Audubon, Iowa, Chloe Anthofer and special friend Sam Denker, Jacey Anthofer all of Exira, Iowa, John Anthofer, Adelena Anthofer, Mildred Anthofer, and Eve Anthofer all of Carroll, Iowa, and Jake Brandt of Prescott, Iowa; his brothers Larry and wife Lora Anthofer and Clete and wife Pat Anthofer all of Audubon, Iowa; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Kathy and husband Dean Gunderson of Cylinder, Iowa, Ruth Kennett of Des Moines, Iowa, Dan and wife Teresa Wright of Columbia, Missouri, Vic Strabala of Oxford, Iowa, and Sue Wright of Knoxville, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father David Nkrumah on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be John Anthofer, Jake Brandt, Sam Denker, Brad Klocke, Brian Klocke, Jim Nichol, Jacob Best, and Chris Schultes. There will be a Rosary Friday afternoon January 25, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. followed by a visitation at 5:00 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
