Steve E. Nancarrow

Stephen Earl Nancarrow, the son of Earl and Mary Mardelle (Tibben) Nancarrow, was born July 5, 1943, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa and died November 29, 2021, at CHI Health Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 4 months, and 24 days.

Steve was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. He attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1961. He was then employed at Rosebud Feed Company for 3 years. On October 30, 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his tour of duty, he served as a Radar Equipment Operator and was honorably discharged on April 12, 1968, and returned to Exira.

On November 16, 1968, he was united in marriage to Susan Jane Powers at the Exira Christian Church. They were blessed with two children, Kristine and Jeffrey. In 1968, he was employed for the City of Exira in the maintenance department eventually becoming the supervisor where he worked until he retired in September of 2001. During retirement, he worked part time in the meat department at Exira Foodtown. Susan died August 20, 2017.

Steve was a member of the Exira Christian Church. He was an active member of the Exira American Legion Ballou Post #332 and an active member of the Exira Fire and Rescue serving as secretary and treasurer for both organizations for many years. Steve was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to watch the many sports they played. He loved to do woodworking and could often find him and Susan tending to their large vegetable garden and canning the produce they harvested. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, squirrels and neighborhood cats.

Preceding him in death is his wife, Susan Nancarrow, and his parents.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristine and husband Cory Fuller of Omaha, Nebraska; his son, Jeffrey Nancarrow of Daytona Beach, Florida; his grandson, Tyler Schwab of Omaha; his step-grandson, Devon Fuller of Omaha; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Doris Sobotka, Monica and husband Bill Plantz, Robert and wife Mona Powers, and Kenneth and wife Denise Powers; his cousins: Judy Meyer, Karen Beckman, Tom Nancarrow, Randy Rabe, Phil Rabe, and Mike Rabe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family will meet with friends Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Christian Church with Pastor Glen Meyers officiating. Inurnment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira. The honorary casket bearers will be Frank Olsen, Don Greving, Tim Wahlert, Dennis Ballou, Mike Bintner, Charlie Wheeler, and Perry Paulsen.
